You have helped me so much! I have ADHD and am an impulse makeup shopper. I am overwhelmed by the amount of makeup I have. However, I realize that I actually do have benchmark brands and have been leaning much more heavily on them. I go to urban decay for my foundation and setting powder, I don’t need another. It’s perfect. Mac and Melt and MOB for shadows and lippies. Mac and Silk Naturals for Blushes. I don’t really see myself needing to try anything else. And I feel more excited about makeup now than ever. Thank you Ms. Megan.

I 100% agree with this. I'm done with buying from a zillion different brands. I know what I like and I now like to repurchase my fave items once I use it all up. The endless search for new and better just results in disappointment much of the time and wastes money.

I remember you talking about benchmark brands a few weeks ago on Instagram and it totally stuck with me. I'd say my benchmark brands are NARS, MAC and, for cheaper stuff, ELF. I have bits and bobs from other brands that I love but those are my main ones. Foundation, concealer, bronzer and some blush is all NARS - it wasn't on purpose, it just ended up that way, but it makes sense because I've also heard you talk about complexion products being most harmonious with others from the same brand.

Wanted to add one other thing - a nice benefit of benchmark brands is that you're less likely to end up with two products that are too similar to each other, like blushes or lipsticks

I love that foundation, it’s become one of my holy grails. I used to and still am a matte girly but this changed my life. I can’t explain how much I love this foundation. In my opinion it’s a more updated and advanced version of luminous silk.

This makes me realize my benchmark brands are gunna always be danessa myricks, Pat McGrath, haus labs, rare beauty, and mac. All the products I gravitate towards are from those 5 brands at all time. I’ll always use at least 3 of those 5 at all times for all my makeup

I’m guilty of having a TON of makeup. BUT I do pride myself on using things up and I finish a lot of makeup every year so it helps me keep some balance. I have a makeup bag with my everyday work full face, and then a bag for my weekend glam face, and I mostly use the same base/complexion products, and maybe switch cheek/colored products but that system works for sure 👍🏾

My friend made me realise I definitely have my benchmark brands and yes MAC is right up there since uni, she was laughing at how small my makeup “collection” was compared to hers, even though I love to play with different techniques and struggle to resist a new palette. She has drawers and drawers and shelves full of different brands she got sucked into via social media. Most of which she is now finding are separating or smelling odd and have not held up so well. She has decided her New Year’s resolution is to only replace what she really uses and loves (but not until it hits pan) and to clear out/donate whatever she knows she will never use. My girl loves to shop so Im sure this is going to be torture for her. Thankfully I’ve introduced her to your channels so she can play with the new techniques Im learning from you and get to enjoy all the kit she has now and to help her find her benchmark brands. It’s crazy just how much you can get sucked in, especially when there sales on 🫣 The inner magpie just loves the sparkle tho 🤣 I know I struggle to finish some products before they expire and wish that Mac and other brands had more in their mini/travel size range. I’m definitely following her lead on only replacing when it hits pan and learning to use what I already have in different ways.🤞🏻so glad this popped up in my recommends i definitely needed a reminder🤗 but if Mac re-release Isn’t it iron-ic? gel liners I’m bulk buying 🤣

@ I’m with you completely, as some of the creams and liquids she had smelt so wrong and the way the liquids separated and changed colour didn’t look or smell right. You know that if you risked trying it you would end up with a break out or rash 😳

Once you know you like and what works for you, as long as this isn’t your JOB to review new stuff it’s fine to just use the same stuff. The consistency is what some people like. The average makeup consumer is using the same stuff anyway. My collection is moving in that direction anyways

Peoples who jobs it is to review stuff have lost the plot and it's at the expense of the viewer. It's quantity over quality. Over consumption is entirely out of hand and no longer is the average consumer using the same stuff. They're sitting on hoards and hoards of makeup. I've spent many many many many hours talking to people online and IRL about their collections. People have also forgotten that the makeup industry has been around for DECADES and the over consumption with our remorce began in 2016 with virality. It's not normal.

there's no specific answer - because what lightens a lipstick for me is going to be different to someone else.You have to consider formula, the depth of the lipstick its going on, how many things you're layering and how much colour you're wanting to lift and its undertone.

Very important video IMO, I am so agree with that. I know the finish, the texture, the color I love on me, this is really important, you don’t really have FOMO after that. A new products from a brand, X, Y, Z, ok what is the product, if I use this product lol, I look the inci list if I am allergic to something, this is the texture, finish and color I love or not, if I can not say yes to these questions it’s a pass, because it’s not for me that it 😅. I don’t understand why many people buy the same color, the same finish of blushes in every brand 😆, just why ? You love your product why you want to buy something new 😅 If I love a product, I will finish the product and when it’s empty I will repurchase the same that it. Why change something if it’s work for you and you love it!

Uhhh kind of yes but kind of no, because I'm sure you can manipulate what you have to creature similar / new textures. It's different if something came out that's SOOOO different that wasn't in a benchmark brand for you. Benchmarks are your reference and starting points
