Cheers man, turboing the xv would be very cool. Probably a bit easier to do as well if its a draw through set up instead of a blow through

Absolutely love it mate, im trying to make a completely off road one atm. 2002 model. Got it cheap with all the wiring a mess, could I ask for a little help, with the wiring i want nothing but what it needs to run and stop, struggling to find anything i can get my head around and what i can completely cut and the route and colours i need together. Massive appreciation in advance, Avid subscriber.

Your welding is better than mine, and I never, ever let anybody see it. Heat tape or dressing disks are my best friend! Despite my self-proclaimed noob status, I know that purging the pipe is good practice, it keeps oxygen away from the weld and helps stop oxidation. Stuff the ends with kitchen/tinfoil and supply argon during the process with a second hose. 👍🏽 Good to see the channel growing Rich! Well done!

Good to know, thanks for the tip, ol try it on the next part of the exhaust. Thanks for the support, and yea, grinders save the day for pretty fabrication lol.

After two years of living with the in laws in a bedroom I am finally moving into my own place again. Can’t wait to get out in the garage and work on bikes again. Can I just say your tig welding wasn’t that bad for just learning, my first few times tig welding was pretty scary looking, I still don’t feel confident in it.

The annoying thing i find with it, is just as it seems to be going well, i get a little over confident and make daft mistakes, lile dipping the tungsten, or getting the torch angle wrong and flaring up. Glad to here you'll be spannering again soon, its a great way to unwind. Hope the family is all good 👍👍

Did you have to lengthen any of you cables? If so which ones?
@BareBonesMotorcycles

Not as yet, but i expect i may lengthen my throttle cables. The brake line will be different because of the fork change.

Hey mate , just wondering what size turbo you put on ? Im going to do the same to mine 😁

Ha, dont use the one ive got. Ive taken it from a 1.9tdi astra van! Its way to big really. Garrett do a nice little one, i think its the gbc14-200. Which would be perfect and small enough to use pull through with a bigger single carb conversion.

Came across your video because I am looking into building one myself. Any alternative ideas for the turbo placement? I'd like a solution for an airbox to protect the filter if I were making one, but that seems rather difficult with the current turbo location. I dont know how a rear mount turbo would look like, but it would produce more lag, which I wouldnt want. I guess having the turbo as close to the cylinder as possible, the air intake plumbed under the tank or smth and running the charge pipe next to the cylinder would be the solution. It feels like a very tight fit and a cramped one at that.

Oh and I'm gonna say it, as an engineer which means I know more than tradesmen and I am superior in every account so my opinion cannot be disputed, those welds dont matter at all as long as they dont leak because the exhaust is not a structural component. And when it comes to structural components, you shouldnt really alter them anyway because achieving factory level rigidity is near impossible for a diy:er. Thats all.
@BareBonesMotorcycles
@BareBonesMotorcycles 2 жыл бұрын
Your right with the tight fit for the turbo, you cam get smaller ones which are easier to locate, ive seen a video where the turbo was under the seat, although i would have thought that would be a bit warm for the rider. Short header pipes are a good way to go, but if you want it at the back of the bike, you could always put in an anti lag loop. Would be good to see your build though, always enjoy looking at others mods and customs. Feel free to chuck some photos on my fb page. Thanks for the words on thw welds, they dont leak, just look aweful, but practice makes pefect. Thanks for the support. 🤟🤟

hey im also turboing my gs500 but im not sure how to tune the carbs. because the carbs are vacuum actuated and when it hits boost the carbs will close. do you have any ideas how to work around this?
@BareBonesMotorcycles
@BareBonesMotorcycles 2 жыл бұрын
Yea ive been looking into this, you need to pressurise the fuel line to just a little more than your boost pressure with a regulated fuel pump, to stop the boost pushing the fuel back into the tank. The rest should be ok, maybe bigger jets and a needle shift but that will depend on the mix and pressure. So a bit of trial and error there. Good luck with your build. And thanks for the support. 👍👍

Good effort on tig welding, I hear that’s the hardest type to learn, I’ve been thinking about getting a tig welder myself. Is it worth flatting off all those welds and re going over them off the bike ? Very good result so far so. Just sold my XV finally, so no projects on the go, breaking my Honda CX650 as it’s rotten through and too far gone, so left with my new to me Honda NT650 Deauville. Look forward to the next one anyway, getting there chap 😊

Luckily a friend of my other half used to be a fabricator so hes goibg to pop over and show me the ropes. Nice one on selling the xv hope you got what you wanted for it. Nice big space now then to fit a new project bike though. Thise hondas are good alrounders, pretty bombproof as well.
