Matchup experience feels way more integral in this game than other platform fighters. Pretty much every character has something that explodes you or a gimmick you have to watch out for.

This tournament brought some mixed feelings. On one hand smash professionals helped the game grow in popularity and as a result there's been an influx of new streamers. On the other hand it felt like none of the smash professionals attempted to put in much time to at least practice for the tournament and as a result most of them fell out of the tournament quickly. Honestly alot of us were putting up bets on what players would make it far in tournament and Void was at the top list due to his results in other fighting games outside of smash.

I heard that this game has 5 different currency systems and that playing without paying money is unpleasing, is that true?

I just recently got into it. It started as a mobile game, so it's got all the mobile game junk. It's not too much of a problem though. The main way to get games is by opening a lobby, and then the only thing that money helps with is unlocking characters. You can grind in the queue to get currency to unlock characters, but just note that it takes around 50 matches to be able to unlock 1 or 2 characters. Gameplay-wise, it's really good. I would love if they just ditched the mobile nonsense and sold the game for $30-40. I'd even pay $60 if they kept supporting it with balancing and new characters/stages.

Game becomes very unpleasant eventually if you don't spend money. All the best free items (star pass) are given at the start and they don't refresh each season. Good luck fighting your opponents 3 lv10 characters with +20% atk/def stickers and their 2 colourful stickers giving them extra abilities (you're not getting anywhere near these levels of p2w op bullshit for free lol). Currencies: -Exp levels characters but you unlock a level with Gold -Sticker Fragments buy and upgrade stickers -Hero Coins unlock characters -Lucky Coins are premium currency -Star Dust is from ranked and buys free costumes/emotes -Red Crystals you pay real money for to unlock arbitrary rewards like costumes or the extremely useful "choose any colourful sticker" box (no idea why this extra currency exists).

@@and...and.. it depends what kind of matches you want to play. I found that lobbies are a good way to get matches, and in lobbies all characters are max level and all stickers are unlocked. Also, if you don't use lobbies you will get a lot of matches against bots.

@@pareod A lot less bots in ranked. You'll need stars and novas for unlocking characters for free. There's other problems w only playing lobbys, trying to get a high rank is fun and lobbys don't have skill based match making, they're also more effort than pressing a button and there aren't always people wanting to play in lobbys. p2w garbage needs to be removed from the game (probably never will be until the game is on an unrecoverable decline) but until then you're right lobbys are the only real way to play competitively for free.

The main thing is the sticker system. Most of the top level NA talent that you see in the VGBC vods are in a weird sort of "protest". Many of them stop playing after plat, and mostly just do lobbies without stat stickers. It's a very unpopular system ever since it was added.
