what I did on my engine was widen the exhaust port on each side by 1mm and it gave significant bottom end without sacrificing top end, seeing as it runs around 11-12,000 rpm
@supersportryder4 жыл бұрын
I ported the potatoes out of a pk80 40mm stroke raised the exhaust real high and the intake low. I wanted more compression no base gasket, high temp silicone. Piston was hitting at tdc as motor would not turn forget cranking it. Used 2 copper head gaskets cause I didn;t feel like didturbing my silicone work and the end result is a gorilla. Thank you Fred for explaining what I did. I increased squish band with 2 head gaskets while retarding my over zealous exhaust port and helping my intake with no base gasket.

Great stuff, Fred, thanks for sharing. Just FYI: When you need to get the camera to focus onto something up close, like your custom needle nose pliers, put your hand behind behind the object, I'm sure you've seen people do this in videos before, it forces your camera to focus on what's right in front of it and not the background.

@ghettobikelife88336 жыл бұрын
T Trinh no, windowed piston only works with reeds. Fred’s motors are piston port (no reed), trimming the skirt increases the intake duration for higher rpm

Hi Fred, I am looking at getting a Zeda 80 Weekend Warrior unassembled to tinker with. Wanted to get your opinion on mods for this engine? I will be running a high compression head, aftermarket CDI, two piece exhaust. I have a CDH reed valve with a windowed piston. Ive got the Gasbike supercharged Coil & CDI. NT Carb. Note: I match ported everything. I have not added a boost port yet. I may have enlarged the vertical dimensions a tad too much on the intake port, as It seems the bottom end fell off a bit. Im compensating this by switching my 48t sprocket to a 56t soon. My question, based on timing and stuff, if I were to add a boost port to the jug, would that help restore or increase the bottom end? I live in Mass with alot of steep hills to climb.

I bought the zeda80 because I have a half-breed that I installed new SKF bearings in. Unfortunately after completing the bearing installation, I couldn't get the 2 crankcase halves back together again. For some strange reason there was about an 8th of an inch gap between the two halves. The bearings were in as far in could get them with the bearing puller. So now motor is in pieces and just sits unused. Any insight or advice on why that happened or how to get the 2 halves to meet and sit flush?

Roofing felt works decent. For the head carving you just need steady hand, a drill and a cutter burr with a barrel shape. Square nose so to say. The higher the cylinder rides, the more it likes hi rpm. The lower you run it, more torque. Takes bout 3 weeks of easy riding to break it in. Outta nowhere you'll mysteriously get power that 4th week

Fred why do you love the gt5 so much? You're the only person I've ever spoken too that had something good to say about a motor with m6 studs and Phillips head bolts. What's so great about the gt5? The zeda 80 is a much more sold motor.
@turrettooling19686 жыл бұрын
The ZEDA 80 engine is a copy of my GT-5L, but it's a poor copy with an inferior crankshaft. Both my GT-5L and GT-5 Super are special engines available at CR Machine only. Those engines are high level engines that are completely reworked, including the crankshafts, which are fully remachined and new parts fitted. There is absolutely no comparison between a factory ZEDA motor and any motor from CR Machine. Two very different leagues.
@JS-fb6ww6 жыл бұрын
Frederic Chelminski, I was more refering to which is better of the two; the STOCK gt5 or STOCK zeda80? Or are they comparable in their stock (out of the box form)?
@turrettooling19686 жыл бұрын
Okay. Well, the ZEDA 80 has better performance for expansion chamber exhaust, but it's a racing geometry, so they don't perform well with stock exhaust. Also the ZEDA motors use low quality connecting rods, so, I don't use those engines. Premature bearing failure will occur from having oversize journals. I mean, they will run for a while, but they don't meet my specs. I always change the rods of those engines if I get them in the shop.
@JS-fb6ww6 жыл бұрын

heloow there from Ecuador i got a cuestion what happen if i put the arrow in the piston to the intake side? can u tell me plz i think i made a mistake with that
@turrettooling19686 жыл бұрын
Don't pay attention to the arrow. Sometimes they point forward, sometimes it's pointed backwards. Piston ring end gaps should be facing the rear (intake) side of the cylinder. Even if you were to accidentally install the piston backwards, the engine would still run fine because even if the ring end gaps are facing front, they won't get fouled in the exhaust port. Either way you have it, no worries.
@NoboaIsrael6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your answer, although you do not believe me yesterday I could not sleep thinking about the error of the arrow of the piston, you have made me breathe again. What do you think about the porter piston when you have the reeed valve?
