I work in the auto glass industry, and I can certify that any reputable shop can replace your windshield, with more care than the robots at the factory. depending on the surface we can adjust more precisely the amount of urethane needed. Now, windshields can be removed with a nylon wire system, which will never scratch your paint. But I understand entirely the need for this product on more expensive vehicules. It is something that might be interesting to add to our line up of services at my shop

Care is a lot different than precision. I had mine replaced and the 2 guys were crawling all over my car, standing on my door sills and even the floorboard in front of the passenger seat applying the adhesive. The entire process bothered me so much that I almost want to sell my car. Windshield replacement isn't close to what the factory does and it certainly isn't for detailing enthusiasts like Matt and most of his followers. Basically, if your car is more than transportation for you, don't replace your windshield, and if you do, don't watch.

This is the real Mike. As Max was stating, like in any product or service, there are really good practitioners out there. But the likelihood of finding those people and then catching them on their best day, is very small. It's why I don't like the idea of getting epoxy done on your garage floor. If it works and you find the right "guy," it can be amazing. But...all the factors necessary to get it right makes the odds very high that it doesn't work out so well. I'm simply testing the viability of a product like this to see if it makes sense to reduce the chance of needing to find a windshield guy that is legit.

I totally agree and I would not let someone else than myself replace my windshield for those exact reason, and I agree with Matt on that one, excellent practitioners exist.. just not worth it to try and find them

I am going to find out soon. I have a non daily driver with 1000 miles on it. I have one super uber tiny nick I do not see it to be an issue. I would say some cars arrive at the dealerships with worse. It was a rock recently tossed up on me by a passing by car. I could see it hit and roll down, it took me half an hour to see any damage (after I got home and parked it in the garage) it is just that tiny. I would say the glue/adhesive may fill it and make it smooth. I am about to find out asap when I can find an installer.

Hi Jae! If you are referring to sand blasting, the adhesive at the bottom of our film will actually flow into small/medium sized pits and make them invisible. However, if it does have a lot of pits or deep ones, then there will either be small air pockets or some distortion while the adhesive reflows and settles (since it won't have a flat surface to sit on). We've seen people polish glass to make it look new, but that's something we aren't too familiar with. On the other hand, if they're stone chips then most stores will be able to fill them in before putting on ExoShield and you won't see a thing!

Hi Jae, TLC can definitely install ExoShield on your vehicle - they've done quite a few for us already and we've had nothing but great feedback from customers. If your windshield does need any polishing, that's a service availability that varies from dealer-to-dealer. The best way to have that answered is to just give Dave at TLC Auto Detail a call :)

Happened to me too back in the day. I had a windshield with a radio antennae in it cost about 800.$ to replace. It was a truck and took rocks like a jeep. I was pushed to claim the FIXES on my insurance by the dealership/glass repair. These being the FILLER THINGS ,to keep it from running or ruining the windshild, these were repairs in order to save money and lose that factory seal. SO, at the total cost of the claim 35.00$ back then times 3 which is less than 100$ I soon received a SHOCKING letter telling me if I had ONE more claim, I would be DROPPED from the company!!!!! So, I told them (back then) what if I had made them pay the full 800.00 to replace it? Would they rather have done that than to have me claim 3 payments less than 100 bucks? DID NOT CARE ONE BIT. I was on the list to be knocked off the insurance policy!!! LOL Like wow. I cannot stand insurance companies. You cannot drive without them and you cannot win with them. They hate to pay out but man if you miss a payment they wanna really stick it to ya too.

This is what I need. My F30 windshield is destroyed with the tiniest chips that completely wreck my head especially in low lying sun. I could get it replaced but in a couple of months it will be chipped to pieces again. My wife goes crazy as whenever I bring her in the car she sees how much of a knot I get myself in about it. It is actually a gnawing feeling inside me in low lying sun. I know I need help! Anyway, Is the glass softer nowadays for some safety reason?
@ExoShield
@ExoShield 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Conor! It really depends on whether you have the aftermarket or OEM glass. OEM glass has to meet tougher criteria and is fairly high quality/standard, but aftermarket glass is a wild card and can be anything. It likely is just we have more cars on the road and most of us drive more these days than we used to, which means more sand being blasted at the vehicle.

Window film is really interesting but I'd be really worried about scratching the film if I ever had to use my wipers. I've heard stories from customers of mine who have had this product who've had to get it replaced due to scratches from the blades catching the "normal" dirt and debris from driving that collects on the screen. Pros and cons I suppose, but in the long run it will hopefully save you money. Good luck with it. Interested to see which glass coatings do & don't bond to it since it's not glass.

Hi Martin, the key innovation behind ExoShield is actually our proprietary hard-coat, which is the most scratch resistant in the world for this type of an application (6X better than the next-best technology). It will resist most things from scratching it, so you shouldn't worry a lot. Simple things like replacing wiper blades as your manufacturer recommends (typically every 6 months) or when they are worn out, not scraping the windshield with a metal scraper, and avoiding exotic or toxic cleaning chemicals on it will help you get years out of ExoShield. As for glass coatings, you are pretty much right on since most coatings are designed for glass. The one we've found that works incredibly well is actually Ceramic Pro 9H, which not only adds the hydrophobicity most people love about glass coatings, but also increases the scratch resistance of ExoShield by another ~70%!

@ExoShield
@ExoShield 6 жыл бұрын
Hi kfeems & 6.2LTRV8! Dirt trapped under the film and scratches are both issues we spend a lot of time thinking about at Alchemy. Here's what we're doing to mitigate/solve these issues: 1) We only work with stores with extremely clean working environments. A dirty environment = more dust particles in the air = dirt landing on the windshield right before we lay down ExoShield. We also teach our partners specific tips to minimize dirt trapped under the film. All of this said, as Pete mentions in the video, unless we are installing in a Class 1 clean room (~$6,000 per sq ft to build), there may be 1-2 tiny particles on the average installation. They are often so small that you won't notice them, and in fact, after the other dust particles land on your windshield post-installation, you won't even know which one is which. 2) The key innovation behind ExoShield is actually our proprietary hard-coat, which is the most scratch resistant in the world for this type of an application. It will resist most things from scratching it, so you shouldn't worry a lot. Just remember to replace your wiper blades as your manufacturer recommends (typically every 6 months) or when they are worn out, don't scrape your windshield with a metal scraper, and avoid using any exotic or toxic cleaning chemicals on it. If you have any questions, we'd be happy to answer them here, via email or phone - our contact info is on our website :)

What if your car is new but you have about 1000 miles on it unprotected (with some highway) that might have gotten peppered VERY tiny nicks or a small rock or two that left like a pinhead size nick. What do you do? So do they buff/polish it out or what?
@ObsessedGarage

You'll likely have to live with that. Putting this on you windshield now would likely leave an air pocket on those areas that are damaged. Polishing glass doesn't work so well.
@6.2ltrv85
@6.2ltrv85 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the reply, I love your channel. I am not sure that the "average" person would even consider it a nick on the glass. I probably could ask YOU to find it and even you might not be able to. It is just one tiny place a rock was thrown up on my windshield as I was pulling onto the feeder road by a passer by going about 30 mph so I had to be going less than 10mph as I had just pulled out and was still in first gear. I saw the rock and watched it roll down onto the cowl and removed it when I got home in the garage. It is not a DDriver, it is not a super car, it is a Holden/Chevy SS Sedan so the glass it already becoming an issue to find and it does have HUD display. The nick (the one I know of) literally is a pin/needle tip size. I had a hard time finding it after the incident and even when I go to look at it again (a few times after ) because I am OCD LOL. I suppose I mostly wanted your advice /opinion n glass polishing :) I agree with you on that as well. I would say MINE would be still considered like new or just as good or the same. Literally has just hit over 1000 miles in a year and a half. :( Basically the longest ride was 75 miles from the dealership to my house it has ever been on. Parts are already becoming an issue for the plant closed in Au. Last Oct. This seems like a great idea and along with PPF I want to put on it would give me the piece of mind I need. Reasons for all who wonder why so low mileage is personal reasons. Health and family. Things are on the mend and up and up tho, hence why I am inquiring. :)
@6.2ltrv85
@6.2ltrv85 6 жыл бұрын
Also, I found the website, so I intend to find a local installer next week and let them look at the glass. I just cannot imagine it being an issue but will check. The only way it would be in any more pristine condition is if I had trucked it like you from the dealer to my house and never driving it at all. Actually, I did not know about such a thing for the windshield. Things happen, and now is the time I can deal with it. So, I will let you know how it turns out if I get it done :) I have put off the PPF for just have not had time but the car is flawless still (paint wise) and now is the time or never :) Take care
@ExoShield
@ExoShield 6 жыл бұрын
Hi 6.2LTRV8! In case of the VERY tiny nicks, the adhesive at the bottom of our film will actually flow into small/medium sized pits and make them invisible. The concern with the rocks leaving a nick could be that sometimes they plough out a bit of glass causing a bit of a ridge - if that's the case most stores can either nudge that ridge loose and then the adhesive should take care of it as long as the nick isn't deep. ExoShield has been put on vehicles with plenty more miles than yours, so the odds are that you won't have any issues as long as the nicks aren't anything abnormal :)
