The blackout fenders give the car blackout lights, they’re special lights which are used when the military is trying to stay low profile; they have small slits at the front that only shine a small amount of light to illuminate the path but don’t spread it everywhere so as not to be seen, hence the covered lights with the little visors on the top. The visor headlights have a similar function. These are still used today. The stars on the front bumper indicate that a star ranking officer is in the vehicle. One star means brigadier general. Two means major general, three means Lieutenant General and so on. The Pole on the bumper was meant to prevent drivers and passengers from getting beheaded or hurt by ropes or wires tired to trees in forests. The rubber posts on the hood are so the windshield can be folded down, which is useful for shooting or if you’re in a situation where it will harm you due to breaking glass and whatnot. Very cool attention to detail by rockstar.

For those who don’t know, the red plate on the front bumper with the silver stars indicates a flag officer is in the vehicle, with the silver eagle or number of stars corresponding to rank. The plate is there to basically to alert lower ranking servicemembers to prepare to salute the incoming vehicle. It’s still in practice to this day.

3:28 those pole bumpers were because enemy soldiers would put strings across roads high up enough that if someone would drive through them, it would chop off the driver and passengers heads or severely injure them. Built to last. Modern technology could do with some backtracking.
@deus_ex_machina_3 жыл бұрын
@@Vidhur It's not (solely) the technology but a combination of factors. Of course adding complexity means more chances for things to go wrong, as evidenced by the AK platform's brilliant simplicity and reliability, but it's not the be all end all. InRange conducted a mud test in which the AR variant performed better than the AK one. Going back to vehicles, rust is much less of a concern than before, due to improved coatings and alloys. If you're looking for something to pin blame on, then it would be economics-research 'planned obsolescence' if you haven't already.
@Vidhur3 жыл бұрын
@@deus_ex_machina_ I think it's too simple to blame it on economics as most people in the west buy technology based on its durability and high-end specs. This is seen in consumer tests everytime. Although I do agree that manufacturers of tech and machinery have decreased durability on products these days, but there's more than one reason for this. Materials are one, complexity is also one, but I do also think craftmanship and design has taken a nosedive. Even if the materials are exquisite and the complexity is fairly simple, I still had thing break down that would never have broken down back in the day. Maybe it's economics, but that would be an indirect cause, the direct cause is a lack of craftmanship.

Pole bumper was created to rip very thin ropes that SS behind allied lines would set up between trees, basically they were almost invisible but if a car was going into it fast that line would hurt or cut of driver's head. At some point the allies realised this and started mounting this thing in front of the jeep so it would destroy the trap before it could hurt anyone inside the car.

I did the same thing you did here, I mostly tried to make it look like an original WWII Jeep and not get aftermarket with it since the WWII Jeep is just so iconic. Though, I've been tempted to get myself a second one to build it more like a customized post war CJ series just so I can put some off road wheels and tires on it, mostly because it's hard to match the color of the stock wheels to the body of the vehicle. I just wish we could have an infinite amount of garage space to make that more viable XD

That bar on the front is for breaking wires set up to cut the drivers head off. This is due to how most people drived with the windshield down so the sunlight didnt reflect off giving away their positions.

The poles on jeeps are from ww2 when the germans would set up wires between trees. They knew the americans liked to ride around without the windshield up so it would essentially decapitate them. The pole had a blade, so it was able to cut these wires.

The bar in front of the cap was made becuase at war mostly with japan they used to tie Lines in fishing rope or metal wire at head hight, the bar would break this rops preventing decapataion. A very smart and simple solution.

The bar on the fender was a wire cutter.... Germans were known for stretching wire across roads as they retreated, a passing GPW crew would be decapitated by the wire as they drove down the road. The canister was an extra air filter, primarily used in sandy conditions, especially by the British forces in North Africa
