GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition is a GTA IV mod that recreates the original Vice City game in full using RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine).
The most noticeable differences are in the physics and animations, but there are also some improvements in lighting and shadows thanks to the new engine.
Most of the models have been ported with the original geometry.

I think I still personally prefer the definitive edition. Call me crazy, call me insane. The stand out features of the nextgen edition are there though. The fighting is improved, the ragdoll physics are great, being able to swim is good, but the stand out feature is how you can hear all the car radios as they drive by instead of it kicking in when you get inside.

Honestly, I prefer the Definitive Edition version, currently it is practically perfect. I recently completed the game 100% and didn't have any bugs with it. But it's incredible that a group of 4 people delivered this quality in the game and still completely free, a kick in the ass from Rockstar!

I don't know what everyone is on about, Definitive Edition lighting and graphics still look better because Nextgen edition easily falls into uncanny valley - it feels like they just upscaled the textures without caring how they'll look on the GTA IV engine. The only thing people really care about in Nextgen is GTA IV physics engine and some little features that come with it - but, overall, despite its problems, Definitive Edition still feels more like the original game. Nextgen feels like some dead GTA IV mod, that just wears Vice City skin - just outright creepy most of the times

I dont see it being possible, vice city im pretty sure uses baked lighting and the newgen uses realtime. It might be possible if they find the lighting files perhaps? If they even exist? But still renderware is used for vice city original while RAGE is for gta 4, newgens engine. The reason gta vicecity looks the way it does is because of its use of the decade old renderware engine, you plop it in gta 4’s engine you get newer lighting and everything.

Graphics are way better on next gen eddition but i prefer orginal physics and gameplay feel, also the color coding on orginal is missing on any other version

you notice how he doesnt drive at all during the next gen ? shits horrible makes the game feel worse over all. i cant tell you how many times ive quit the game just because I didnt want to drive back across town aftewr failing a mission .booted up vice city stories and i must say thats the definitive experience those early games just work.... fyi he only he drove about 100 feet going straight thats not a good example driving
