I think Android and ChromeOS adding more Linux app support is what's driving the mobile development. Ultimately the goal would be a more unified experience between mobile and desktop.

0:40 - Mii beta's true self . Hope she's fine , we need her review when cosmic De finally releases .

Mii beta's true form cannot be comprehended with normal human intellect. One must be either an eldritch abomination attuned to communication with the cosmoth, or at least a Linux kernel developer.

something related to cosmic DE , will cosmic gnome extensions will have to be rewritten in rust for them to work ? or will they run in js ?
@mii_beta2 күн бұрын
obviously. The "new" Rust Cosmic doesn't support the "old" Cosmic Shell extensions ..actually it was bad idea to keep call it Cosmic, since it's something totally new and completely from scratch; it's like they run out of naming ideas ..or they just loved the COSMIC name so much ..although it's a good name really!

I'm just waiting for the day GTK4 and Adwaita become available on Android, I don't think it would be realistic to ask people to install Linux itself on their phones, but we could maybe make an open source store with Gnome apps

Really don't get the idea to focus on mobile... Don't see gnome or kde having any sort of major participation in mobile ecosystem. From my point of view they should focus on the desktop experience. But hey, this is just me.

I think adaptive designs are nice for tiling managers. I will appreciate gnome apps when using them in cosmic.

Having an adaptive app with good tiling is a benefit for us all ... (+ It's open source, people usually work on things they want to)

Mobile phones desperately need a new major player. Android and IOS are pretty much the only options and they are both terrible for privacy and freedom.

gnome putting bookmarks above removable devices in nautilus is a sin. and the fact making a bookmark requires u to drag it to the bottom and it appears to the top is the cherry on the cake. unusable for me who has like 50 bookmarks for remote systems
@10base-teaparty972 күн бұрын
It's better this way for virtually everyone else though. I'd much rather the removable media that changes more often be at the bottom than the middle. And as I almost never change the bookmarks, having the "add bookmark" at the bottom rather than being some narrow target between new items makes a lot more sense. I'd bet users are dragging items to copy files to a bookmarked folder literally 1,000x more often than making a new bookmark. You'd maybe be better off using stars than bookmarks for what you're doing. (Also, dude, control-d.)

@10base-teaparty97 Hey, I greatly appreciate the reply. However, you actually can't star remote locations (as far as I know; it's greyed out when trying to drag a file or directory in a remote system). Ctrl+D of course works though. I totally acknowledge I'm using it wrong and will instead focus whatever feedback I give to GNOME devs on adding the ability to star remote stuff. One thing I noticed is that using Ctrl+D puts it at the bottom of the list, whereas dragging puts it at the top, which is inconsistent. I feel like the (worse) drag method for adding a bookmark should be fixed, as it makes no sense that one can't drag something anywhere in bookmarks to add it at that position. I still personally think there should be an option to show removable drives below bookmarks though. Most other desktops don't put them above bookmarks/libraries. Most people have very few things bookmarked (so they don't cover removable drives) and actually having removable devices change a lot means the bookmarks are going to be shifting their vertical position on the screen a lot. Obviously not an issue really since it's a floating window and muscle memory doesn't usually apply.
