They've been a band for 30 years, over 20 albums I think now. Badass band but only recently getting some attention outside of Japan because apparently the youtube algorithm recommended it to a bunch of people for some reason. That's how I found them. Check out Namahage by them next, and pull up the closed captions for lyrics.

Thought it was a gimmick when I first watched this too, but turns out they rock. But they are dressed as characters though, the singer/guitarist is a classical literary teacher, the bass player is a demonic monk of some sort, and the drummer is like an old school yakuza gangster. Namahage, Colour Out of Space, and Life For Sale are great ones too.

Ningen Isu are amazing, I've only gotten into them since seeing them being reacted to, for my shame, but they are awesome. I'd double down on Colour of of Space as well, that's a beautiful track. As others have said there are English Captions which are worth viewing, but this track is about them not being recognised despite all the hard work they've put in. How I first found this band: "Why, yes, KZbin recommended videos, I sure do want to listen to 3 50-year-old+ men dressed in traditional Japanese attire (mostly), totally rock out and do it really well... apparently." It was the strangest thing I've ever seen in my recommended vids... how could I not click? I was not disappointed.

Your reaction is as epic as NINGEN ISU! They're the trailblazers of Japanese Metal, their Black Sabbath/Led Zeppelin. They were knew by few outside and even inside Japan but are on the road for 30 years, many albums. Baterist is sick, Vocalist/guitarist shereds the heck out of the guitar. They're legendary! PS: Ken-ichi Suzuki is the best bass player I ever heard. He uses distortions, runs and slides no one does or expects. REACT TO NINGEN ISU "The Colour Out Of Space".

Glad you enjoyed Uncle Fester and his friends... If you have a Spotify account, their whole catalogue is available, about 300 sons of pure enjoyment! By the way, about everybody in the West is late to the party, they have never toured outside of Japan before last winter (February) when they timidly had 2 gigs in Germany and 1 in London... Then the Corona BS hit hard, so I don't know if they plan to tour again, but I hope so, I think they were well received.

It’s a band that is not famous in Japan Unfortunately, even if I ask 10,000 people, only one person knows it. I'm glad that people from overseas listen to it even if many Japanese don't know… NI N GE N I SU is a heretic, unlike other Japanese musicians. Most of Japanese songs are love songs. However, this band deals with serious and important issues that other bands do not, such as the view of life, religion, morality, and life and death. If you, Holy Angels, do exist in this universe Will you bless me on the cheeks? With my painful effort never paid off I've just been standing in the shadow Will the day come someday when I can fly high in the sky? Will the day come when I can see the sun? Tell me, Holy Angels Shabadabadia Shabadabadia Babababa [x2] If you, Divine Goddess, are staying hidden somewhere Why don't you smile at me on my forehead? I've never tasted the nectar of victory I’ve never succeeded in love Will the day come when I can get intoxicated by the victory? Will the day come when I can embrace love? Tell me, Divine Goddess Shabadabadia Shabadabadia Babababa[x2] Countless stars are twinkling in the sky Every one of us is under them With a thousand wishes in each heart Lululu Lululu… If you, Lord Buddha, really exist in some place Please have mercy on me, too Having nothing precious in my possession Desolated Isolated I've been living my life with a series of failures Will the day come when I can totally be satisfied? Will the day come when my dreams come true? Tell me, Lord Buddha Shabadabadia Shabadabadia Babababa [x2] Shine a light on my life Shine a light on my future Shine a light on every creature Shine a light on tomorrow for all

As mentioned, the official english lyrics are in subtitles, but a very brief synopsis of the lyrics is goes as such. Part 1 has the singer calling out to the an angel/divine goddess that his life is full of misery and failure and pleading they give him a blessing. Part 2 (after the melody changes) is him recounting how all beings on earth look up to the heavens to plead for their favour (literally: Countless stars are twinkling in the sky / Every one of us is under them / With a thousand wishes in each heart). It gives the implication that if others' wishes are granted, then he wants to know why his haven't. Part 3 is much like Part 1, except he is calling upon the Buddha for his blessing. The line that stuck out to me most is "めぼしい物など何も待たず" (lit: Having nothing precious in my possession) as it is expressing a materialistic desire that Buddhist teachings say only further one's suffering. Part 4 (after the final buildup) is the singer coming to the realisation that his selfish desires may be the source of his suffering and, regretting his prior pleas, changes his wishes to grant not only himself but all of earth's creatures the gods' divine blessing (the last line means "shine a light on tomorrow for all").

Once you get over their funny looks, you realize how good they are. There are English subs though. Not sure if this is the wrong video or that you just didn't click on subtitles. Their lyrics are delightfully nerdy. Just check out their 'The colour out of Space' and read the subtitles. It's like a sci-fi horror story. Pretty cool. Who though an evil monk, a retired librarian and a Japanese Beachboy/Elvis impersonator could be so awesome together! (That's how I see em. lol) I believe they've been around since the 80's.

Shinji is just one of these person that look older, he looked like a wise hippy in his 20s ^^'. But he studied literature and most of the bands songs are from literature and folklore. Please react to At the Mountain of Madness live. It does not show how much Shinji moves on stage because it is more of a doom song but one of my favorite kzbin.info/www/bejne/epi3dn6ljs10jsk or if you want to see something older please watch Baptism because it has the coolest music video XD I also want to suggest a band called Versailles and the song masquerade, the guitarists Teru and Hizaki are awesome guitar-compo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJqknZKmlrOlnpI This is a live version but there is also a music video if you prefer that :)

When western people listen to a Japanese song, they mostly make fun of band members as girls, so old. or strange looking. These guys reactions are very typical. I'm relieved that comments refer to this band's songs, history and their musicianship.

Peoples first impression is always going to be what they see with their eye until other senses kick in. That's why Western people act shocked. It is unusual to our typical eye. I may a have laughed a few times but I truly enjoyed it and think their musical talents outshined what my eyes could see 🐐

To sum it up, the song is basically a loser in life who is praying to all the Gods he can think of to just give him a break.
Very poor reaction, whoooing, oh my goding, shaking heads, awsoming, etc.. nothing about the music itself, nothing about the lyrics, nothing about the band, nothing about the style and so on and so on… you guys are good for some kids or teenagers because they would appreciate your way of reacting. I’m not buying it at all, your reaction is so fake, actually you’re both overreacting here which proves you’re not doing this for real… anyway bro, all the best bro, you know what I’m saying bro, peace bro…
