Rammstein really uses a lot of symbols in this song. The real meaning only emerges with the lyrics and the video together. You really have to analyze it more closely and then you will understand the deeper meaning. In this song the Middle Ages, the time of the Romans, the GDR - these historical events are presented in different roles. Of course, the theme of the Nazi era and the persecution of the Jews is also addressed, although its presentation does not differ from the style of the other scenes. A constant in the entire video is a woman who appears as a personified Germany in the different epochs. If you know this woman is representing germany and looking to the video again you will see so much more. I think, the choice of the black woman as main actress was made, because: a) it makes any accusations of racism and fascism against Rammstein useless b) she represents one colour of the German flag and she is wearing the rest of the colours of our German flag as makeup and jewellery and clothes on her body: Black, Red and Gold c) it provokes many people EVEN MORE! Sometimes as a victim, sometimes as a perpetrator. In the text there are also several sections that contradict each other, e.g. "Will love and damn you". Statements like these express Germany's good and bad sides on the one hand. One of the passages like "so young and yet so old". This means that German history began early. But through certain events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the founding of the GDR through which a new era began for Germany. "one can love you and yet hate you!" It is a question of whether you can be proud of your country or not. "Your love is a curse and a blessing. I cannot give you my love." Germany is aware of the good but also dark times and many see the dark times as so extreme that it is difficult to give your country your love and pride. I must have overlooked a few things in the video, but those are the parts that stand out. I was born and raised in Germany myself and feel the same when it comes to being proud of my country. As for the dogs: Germans are fanatical dog lovers. We are a dog-owner nation. The dog is a firm part of Germany. They didn't eat the body of the woman and her inner organs, even if it really looked that way. They were eating the national dish of Germany, that was put on the body of the black woman: Sauerkraut, Kassler & sausages. it symbolizes the church eating itself fat on the goods and values and food of Germany during the simple people (farmers, simple workers etc) lived a long time in a kind of hell of poverty and serfdom (the red fetish area below the table with Germania on it). But that eating scene could indeed have a double meaning. It could represent the 30 years war, that was fought for religious reasons and depopulated large areas of Germany. It forced the people to commit canibalism because nobody was there anymore to produce food. Except the fat, wealthy people of the church, of course. They were still able to eat enough. Only the simple people at the bottom (farmers etc) died from hunger and had to fight and die in that war. The 30 years war was the biggest catastrophe in Germany until WWI happened. he short scene with the dogs and their gas masks = WWI, where in reality animals (messenger dogs & horses) AND soldiers were wearing gas masks, too.The puppies at the end are Leonberger dogs. The Leonbergers nearly went extinct during WWI and WWII. Here the lyrics in english: You (You have, you have, you have, you have) Have cried a lot (Cried, cried, cried, cried) Separated in spirit (Separated, separated, separated, separated) United in heart (United, united, united, united) We (We are, we are, we are, we are) Have been together for so long (You are, you are, you are, you are) Your breath's cold (So cold, so cold, so cold, so cold) The heart in flames (So hot, so hot, so hot, so hot) You (You can, you can, you can, you can) I (I know, I know, I know, I know) We (We are, we are, we are, we are) You (You stay, you stay, you stay, you stay) [Chorus] Germany - my heart in flames Want to love and damn you Germany - your breath's cold So young, and yet so old Germany! [Verse 2] I (You have, you have, you have, you have) I never want to leave you (You cry, you cry, you cry, you cry) One can love you (You love, you love, you love, you love) And want to hate you (You hate, you hate, you hate, you hate) Presumptuous, superior Take over, hand over/puke Surprise, invade Germany, Germany above everything [Chorus] Germany - my heart in flames Want to love and damn you Germany - your breath is cold So young, and yet so old Germany - your love Is a curse and a blessing Germany - my love I can't give you Germany! Germany! [Bridge] You I We All of you You (superior/overpowering, unnecessary) I (Übermenschen weary) We (The higher you climb, the further you fall) You (Germany, Germany above everything) [Chorus] Germany - your heart in flames Want to love and damn you Germany - my breath's cold So young, and yet so old Germany - your love Is a curse and blessing Germany - my love I can't give you Germany!

Just a small note, I think that the translation of the last line of the second verse and of the bridge is not quite correct. Every German understands the allusion. The first verse of the Deutschlandlied is "Deutschland, Deuschland über alles", so "Germany, Germany above everything" but Till Lindemann sings "Deutschland, Deutschland über allen", which I would translate as "Germany, Germany above all". This makes the line ambiguous. For me the statement is: Germany, Germany above all (people). But I can't say whether it is really meant that way. They just played with the German prefix "Über" in the lines before so maybe they just wanted to play with the line without deeper meaning.

@@thomasschrecker5396 Perhaps he was also referencing it cause the intent when the original lines were written, it was to unify all german kingdoms, to remind them that germany in itself was more important than their regional disputes. I think it was also said in internment camp clothes cause this part was wrongfully "reinterpreted" at that time and still is by some people.

Another reason to cast a black woman as main actress could be that the right could not take certain scenes out of context and use them for their own videos. After all, which rightwinger would like the idea of a black person to personify Germany.

Or that everyone watches mainstream media from America, or that mainstream media is even available to other countries. It's just pure American arrogance if you think Germany needs your help or that Rammstein needs your help in figuring out what their own countries history is or that they need help representing their own damn country. Hmm "verdammen" sound a lot like the Norwegian "fordømme," (I am Norwegian) which I would interpret a bit more like judge/make responsible/put in the spot.... actually I cannot find a good English translation either. "damn" might be the best approximation one can make, but it gives the impression of you wanting to sort of curse Germany today, but I don't think that is what you meant. It is about judging Germany for its past, not its present.

A big part of the German history in one video. The black woman as Germania. Germania is the personification of the German nation. It isn't and wasn't a Goddess or Joan of Arc. The glass coffin: It is Little Snow White from the Grimm-fairytales....and from their own video "Sonne". Only with black skin and in space. The piano song at the end is the song "Sonne", too. The battle of the Teutoburg forest against the Romans (and Rammstein as Roman soldiers and Germans alike). That battle is of ABSOLUTE importance for the German history. The hanged bodies in the trees were the beaten Roman soldiers, who were gruesome sacrificed to the Germanic gods...and were partly nailed to the trees. The Varus-(Teutoburg)-Battle was already in 9 AD. In 16 AD were the vengeance campaigns of Emperor Germanicus. Therefore we see here the arrival of the Roman troops of Germanicus and they are watching their dead comrades hanging in the trees or getting their heads chopped off (for nailing them to the trees). In reality the Romans under Germanicus found only the bones of the Varus army in the various ways they were slaughtered, sacrificed and displayed at the trees. Slaves were liberated even decades after the battle. After the scenes with the Romans we saw the Hindenburg Zeppelin disaster (the burning Zeppelin in the background). The moustaches and clothing from the fight scene are from WWI and post WWI years. From the working class people in WWI and the roaring 20's. In the WWII years later on this kind of big bushy moustache was already out of fashion. The V2 rocket (first manmade object in space) as technical triumph of the German spirit...and at the same time the killing of the concentration camp prisoners in the bunker factories below the mountains during the production of that rocket. This scene in the video could be a representation of a very specific concentration camp. It was "Mittelbau-Dora" below the Kohnstein mountain. A mixture between a big, huge bunker factory for V1 and V2 rockets and a concentration camp. The concentration camp inmates had several different markings for different kinds of convicts and their "crimes" sown to their chests, like it was in reality, too. A pink triangle for homosexuals, the star of David for Jews and two of them were marked with the double-triangles for Jehovas Whitnesses. The book burnings of the Nazis and the burning of the witches of the church. In the same scene with the book burning there is EVEN MORE going on. The cooperation of the church with the Nazis, when the priest with the cross embraces the Nazi SA-man. The scene with the sign with the Hammer and a pair of compasses in a circle of wheat is the sign of the GDR (DDR). The socialst German state in the east that existed before the German reunification. Therefore it was Karl Marx in the background in the scene with the tank (not the scene at the concentration camp). The scene with Rammstein wielding guns (the pumpgun) and taking Germania hostage was about leftwing terrorism of the 1970's. The terrorists were called the RAF (Rote Armee Fraktion). My interpretation of the red scanner-like beams: There are two different kinds of beams. The massive straight red light beam that goes up into the heavens AND there were those smaller, thinner "scanner" beams. Aliens (or humans from the future) are scanning the whole German history. Like some real scientists are scanning and excarvating ancient Mexican or Egyptian statues, for example. The massive red light beam is the red ribbon of time that ties together all the historical events. PS: As for the dogs: Germans are fanatical dog lovers. We are a dog-owner nation. The dog is a firm part of Germany. PPS: They didn't eat the body of the woman and her inner organs, even if it really looked that way. They were eating the national dish of Germany, that was put on the body of the black woman: Sauerkraut, Kassler & sausages. In my opinion it symbolizes the church eating itself fat on the goods and values and food of Germany during the simple people (farmers, simple workers etc) lived a long time in a kind of hell of poverty and serfdom (the red fetish area below the table with Germania on it). But that eating scene could indeed have a double meaning. It could represent the 30 years war, that was fought for religious reasons and depopulated large areas of Germany. Only the simple people at the bottom (farmers etc) died from hunger and had to fight and die in that war. The 30 years war was the biggest catastrophe in Germany until WWI happened. PPPS: The short scene with the dogs and their gas masks = WWI, where in reality animals (messenger dogs & horses) AND soldiers were wearing gas masks, too. PPPPS: The puppies at the end are Leonberger dogs. The Leonbergers nearly went extinct during WWI and WWII. PPPPPS: My interpretation of the glass coffin is Little Snow White in space, like I wrote before. PPPPPPS: The black woman in the prison was dressed in a Prussian uniform with a Prussian helmet. Finally: The scenes I'm now talking about are pretty dark and low light. The WWII submarine in the submarine bunker during the astronauts are walking by with the glass coffin. I think, the choice of the black woman as main actress was made, because: a) it makes any accusations of racism and fascism against Rammstein useless b) she represents one colour of the German flag and she is wearing the rest of the colours of our German flag as makeup and jewellery and clothes on her body: Black, Red and Gold c) it provokes many people EVEN MORE 😄

For me the best parts of the Lyrics can only be understood in the original german version because of the alliterations "Über-" Überheblich, arrogant überlegen superior Übernehmen, take over übergeben surrender (could also mean vomit) Überraschen, surprise überfallen assault, invade Deutschland, Deutschland über allen Germany over all others Every term starts with the prefix "Über-" (also included n Freuds Über-ICH = Superior.Me) The last line was the 1st verse of the old german national anthem wrote by a german poet in 1841 as the nation Germany was only the dream of many germans and considered the ultimate goal. But it was abused by Nazis as Germany should be superior over all others making others inferior and less valuable. (The worst racist asumption of all) So a nation with a great potential ( 84 out 837 Nobelprize winners were german despite of its much lesser number in the worlds population) was also the source of the cruelest and most hanous acts in human history. For me thats perfectly expressed in this sequence. Our love for science and philosophy could have made a significant difference to the progress of human civilation, but it mostly is recognised for its most inconcievable crimes agains humanity.

Just as a little correction, the line "Deutschland, Deutschland über allen" is a probably very intentionally altered version of the 1st stanza. The original says "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" not "allen" (difference - germany, germany above everything, while the song says everyone). I think Rammstein tried to argue that Germany is here not an entity by itself, but rather that it is about the people that considered themselves above. So, they deliberatly change Everything to everyone.

Ruby Commey as Germania was brilliant. She's actually german, born and raised in Berlin, and the choice of her casting seems like an implicit question to what the audience thinks a nation is made of. as a german: the band rammstein is known for the fact that they like to exaggerate in their videos and lyrics. but there is always truth in it. often you have to look for the real one first. in this case it shows unadorned what was going on during the second world war. therefore the romans beforehand so that one can see the connection with the brutality and the disgust. unfortunately we germans from many parts of the world are still being reproached, even if that was before my time. I don't say under any circumstances we should forget, but we should be clear about what happened and not make the same mistake again. But that's my opinion. the video also shows that germany is a leader in research. space travel etc. we don't have to hide. it is simply a matter of showing what all those outside of us think and say about us and in the well-known RAMMSTEIN way.

If you wonna know about the thing with the Romans: There's a nice mini series on Netflix called Babarians. It's about the reason why the Romans conquered most of Europe. But they failed at the germanic tribes. And it would have been those tribes who finally destroyed Rome, a few centuries later.

The Romans could have defeated the Germanic tribes if they had wanted to and I think they made it up to the river Elbe (or just Weser, I'm not sure), but after Teutoburg they realized that it was unprofitable to apply the needed amount of troops, so they stopped further attempts to colonize the northeast of the Rhine... not after performing a couple of bloody punitive expeditions for their terrible defeat, however. Economics becomes very important for an empire of that size with the technology available. Why station 10 legions in a forest with barbarians who don't have much to offer if you can gain much more wealth, influence and power with these legions in the east?

Germany doesn't had this. Same in Africa with the berbers. The great strength of rome was in this cases is weakness. Like the USA in Vietnam the superior technology and weapons didn't do much if the battleground is not suitable to your fighting style. You must hold lines for food, equipment and reinforcemeant. The romans failed in that case at germany. The celts had citys so there wear easy to conquer the germans wear semi-nomadic.

Just adding to this: The strength and politics of the Roman Empire wasn't only conquering, though, but most of all integrating the conquered (and those who came into the empire because of expulsion or out of their own will). Many Germanic tribes were part of the Empire in one way or another. The Roman Empire crumbled because of a combination of long-term weaknesses and short term crisis, with Germanic peoples - themselves very diverse and not uncommonly quarrelling - being one factor.

By the time you have all your questions answered, you'll be a fully certified professor for German history. The video and song are packed with references and playful twists of German history and events. I'm impressed how Rammstein put it together so it can be more or less understood on an emotional level even without knowledge of the historic details referenced. With all the history and the holocaust, being German and loving your Vaterland inevitably in a way is like suffering from 'bipolar depression'. You want to love your country and in a way you do, but at the same time there are some things about Germany that you just really can't love. In order to truly and genuinely love Germany as a whole you would obviously need to learn to forgive, but then how can you forgive a holocaust? And even if you'd learn to forgive you still can't forget! Germans have a broken heart when it comes to loving their country. I know Russians who, right now as I type, are also having their own hearts broken by their own country. Last but not least let me add that I really wish more Israelis would wake up and also start to have their hearts broken by what their own country is doing. Germans and Israelis share so much of the same history, just on opposite sides. It hurts to see Jewish people in Israel do so much of the same things to others that Germans once used to do to their people. Progressing from victim to perpetrator is not a good path to go down, and how to quickest go down this path is not a very wise and helpful lesson to take away from our shared history.

Hello there! I think it's really cool that you REALLY engage with the videos you're reacting to. Rammstein is a band that is very socially critical. They criticize things that aren't right, but also point things out. "Deutschland" by Rammstein is a song that deals with the complexity of German history. It starts with the Roman conquest of parts of western and southern Germany (left bank of the Rhine) and also the resistance of the Germans against the Roman occupation (one of the important turning points was the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest) up to the Crusades over the time of the holy Roman Reich of German Nations, about the time of National Socialism (including the fire of the Hindenburg (Zeppelin), which led to the crash) and also the Holocaust. Then it continues with the GDR, the Rote Aremee Faction (RAF), which was a terrorist organization that had raged in Germany for a long time. I'm from Germany and I can only say the same thing that Rammstein said... "Will love you and damn you". German history is full of dark points, but also positive things, although it doesn't matter at all, because history can no longer be rewritten, but the future can be shaped. It still happens very often that as a German you are labeled a Nazi just because you say bad words to someone who is not of German descent. And by bad words I don't mean insults like the "N" word or anything like that. But the core of German society has not remained stuck in the past, but has faced the future. It doesn't matter what skin color or nationality someone has ... a human being is a human being. Sorry if my english is a bit... bad. Have a nice day.

One small detail that often gets missed as the crosses only flash on the screen briefly - the people eating the feast off the woman's body are church members. It shows them sneaking off into an underground area and feasting while some poor people are stuck underneath the table starving. Also the same church people are later seen embracing the Nazi soldiers as they burn books - a nod to the fact that nearly all Christian institutions in Germany supported the Nazis. Some of them turned on them later (mostly because they felt the Nazis were trying to have too much control over them, not because of any moral objections) but a lot backed them right up until their defeat.

The people under the table seem to be in fetish gear though, so it could also be a reference to the fact that the church was restricting people's sexuality while secretly under the table they themselves would be having frivulous sex. What they did during WWII was unscientific, needlessly cruel and corrupt. There's a very pragmatic reason why we enforce basic moral framework during clinical testing. It's easy to go down slippery slope of simply not giving a fuck. When you don't care about your test subjects' well being you start ignore important variables like diseases, hunger, exhaustion. In the end they didn't even care about setting control groups (for similar reasons we don't accept scientific papers describing successful organ transplantions from China when the donors are prisoners) What's worse they were poisoned by own pseudoscientific ideology. In real science you do experiments to test your theories. It was impossible in nazi Germany because it would expose the fact they were not superior. As such their scientists (especially those close to the ruling party) trained themselves to think diffently. They had the right theory first and they strived to confirm it no matter what All those people died in horrible conditions for nothing. That's the cruel reality The best what can I say about their acomplishments was starting space race but even that was hindered by their own incompetency. If they didn't murder all of Jewish / socialist / gay scientists they could've possibly built V2 and V3 rockets that actually worked. Instead more people died in the process of developing the weapon than as a result of being hit by it

Rammstein has always done some of the deepest lyrics, usually with multiple shades of meaning, and they attract the best video producers in the industry having a body of work so rich I feel like an entire media criticism class could be built around analyzing Rammstein videos. Thematically, in between Amerika and Deutschland is their song Mein Land (litterally My Land) about how they feel touring across world talking to people everywhere who "come running with their flag in their hand saying 'my land, my land, you are here in my land'", then twist that in the last part saying when we come to their show now we are in their land. The video is hilarious too, looking like something the Beach Boys or somebody would make... at first. :D One of their most powerful songs is Radio, as the band grew up in East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall and the song is about the repression of free communication in those days.

First: Thanks for your great reaction. Had really fun banging with you at certain parts. I think Germany came out of its darkest time with one of the best constitutions of the world with a stable democracy for more than 70 years which we can proud of. But it is still important to remember what happened because it may not be repeated. Unfortunately there is a trend in Europe for nationalistic and racistic parties and opinions and they try to relative what happened, because it's their only way to get sympathies from average people. But we may not tolerate this, so little reminders in music and elsewhere are healthy things.

The dogs are Leonbergers, a breed that the Germans bred that almost became extinct during the World War. And only through a lot of love and care can we continue to live and survive. At the end you can hear the piano version of Rammstein die Sonne. A very very different version. But very beautiful . And just ramstein

This song is about bad times of Germany. Till sang "Want to love you, want to condemn you" that shows the conflict in German soul -> patriotism and proud or guilty and shame. The 1st part includes hard music like a aggressive accusation. But the 2nd part includes this soft piano melody -> it is like the vioce of "Mother Germany". You should feel good, peaceful, shelter and confident. It is like a hug for the tortured soul. This song is a great master piece!

Which was also the first thing every hitting the upper strtosphere. Many of our very good enginers went to america and the US "stole" alot of our stuff during Operation Paperclip. One of my absolute favorite songs and music videos. Brief explanation of this Rammstein video, as there are many who do not understand the meaning behind it: ‎ For example, many people don't understand the scenes with the dogs. This breed of dogs are not German shepherds, but Leonbergers. This dog breed narrowly escaped extinction in the First and Second World Wars and is symbolic of the German people, whose existence was also severely threatened in these wars - both now have a second existential chance. ‎‎The whole video will only be fully understood by historians and Germans and they will have to watch the video several times. The song is about the ambivalent relationship of Rammstein and many Germans to their country, because of the violent and cruel history with extensive human crimes, especially in recent history. Therefore, the video shows various events from German history, including Roman times, the Middle Ages, witch hunts and witch burnings, the Protestant Reformation, the November Revolution, the "Golden Twenties" and hyperinflation, Nazi book burnings, the Hindenburg disaster, World War I and II, the Holocaust, the Weimar Republic, the Red Army Faction (RAF) and the division of the country into West and East Germany including the June 17 Uprising in East Germany. The black woman represents Germany, sometimes as a victim, but mostly as a perpetrator. With her black skin she should also serve as a kind of provocation for racists. ‎‎The Holocaust was the greatest human crime for this reason, for it was the first industrially organized mass murder in the history of mankind, by a country which at the time was culturally at its highest point in the world and declared itself the land of poets and called thinker. Unfortunately, precisely the high cultural and scientific level in Germany has led to the fact that others are viewed as subhuman who can be killed without pity, just like animals. Seeing other people as inferior has always brought a lot of suffering to people!

Erm, way back once I think I talked sh*t about Hip Hop in general here and I wish to mention that I have changed much about my opinions, your videos being among the reasons.. err.. "shame" *bing. bing.* All right, that said let's go through the topics of the vignettes in this video and some of the generally applicable semiotics! Vignette "Germania Magna" : Here we see probably remains of the defeated Legions lost by governor Varus (Legio XVII, Legio XVIII and Legio XIX) in ) 9AC in one of the greatest defeats ever suffered by the Roman Empire. We have been told by Roman historians that the Germanic tribesmen sacrificed the survivors by hanging on trees (probably sacrifices to Wodan [later called Odin in Scandinavia] ). The wolf is one of his associated animals. Wolf to Dog is one of the semiotics subtly and not so subtly present here. => Germania is a *black* woman. She normally wears some sort of Gold and Red costume, the German colours - Black, Red and Gold. Also she is both a *foreign* person but dressed as and representative of a very well known concept. Vignettes "Near earth Orbit" : The End of Germany, preserved yet dead, it's an opinion piece. Vignette "Weimar Era illegal Fight" ~ sometime in the 20s : A desperate and at the same time decadent setting after the Lost World War, the fight is illegal but who cares after the collapse and hyper inflation (more on that later) - Germania is a flapper Girl who manages this brutal entertainment with a smile, who cares, societal norms are over and dead! Vignettes "Holy Roman Empire" ~ late medieval by the looks: A ton of dead knights, revived by the Empire (at the time *the* Empire, the idea only proliferated after Napoleon) a structure of supreme inefficiency, especially in the late medieval era when feuding involved "wars" between entity as powerful as the league of Taunus (minor mountain chain) Knights vs. the Free and Imperial City Of Frankfurt, deploying armies that numbered in the tens, sometimes hundreds... suffice it to say that endemic warfare was the name of the game, especially with a hereditary warrior caste with autonomous powers and little fiefs of a village and a couple of retainers... enough to have a little war with equally laughable policies but never the less it *kills* people. The revival of the dead knights represents this endemic state. Short Vignette "Hindenburg": Here we see the last icon of the peace time modernity, the zepplin type Airship (*not* a blimp, theses where *ships*, solid constructions, not steerable balloons, with interiors, luxury liner art deco interior and stewards, "sky sailors", captains and all that) Hindenburg, greatest aerial disaster at the time and the end of an icon of modern peaceful high tech. Vignettes "Weimar Era Prison": Germania in the Guards Hussar uniform of the bygone but still influential elites bestrides a scene of political suppression including a rain of completely worthless bills (we have some bills inherited from my great-grandparents generation that are designated literally *millions* of Reichsmark and worth less than a loaf of bread...) and wanton police violence - this is the same era as the illegal brass-knuckles-fight. Vignettes "GDR Government" or "party party": Scenes set in the "German Democratic Republic" (cue the Black-Red-Gold wreathed circle and hammer, it's Coat of Arms), the Eastern German state after the war, a cynical party-state, dominated in the Bolshevik i.e. party elites ruling the state for the good of the masses, (as opposed to Menshevik i.e. truly democratic state socialism) and doing so in a truly dastardly fashion, eventually overturned by a peoples revolution ("Bringing down The Wall" in 1989). Here we have a party functionary literally not just kicking but *raping* the dog when it's about to fall. This is the state that Rammstein members personally experienced in their youth, the song "Radio" is also about the political suppression enacted by this regime. Vignettes "Toxic religion/The Empire is devoured": Here the Band does not, as many think, represent the church in the medieval era. Judging from the early modern dress of the non-churchmen this has to be sometime between the late 16th century and the early 18th. Given that the church not only barbarically devours Germania but at the same time starves the peasantry under the table this only can be the *horrible* 30-Years-War - the relatively most destructive War in German history (and yes: this includes the *World Wars* ...) killing up to 2/3 of the population over 30 years of brutal, allegedly religiously motivated, plunder, rape, marauding and murder committed by undisciplined mercenary armies bleeding the Empire white and depopulating some areas for generations. Vignettes "KZ Bergenbelsen" and "Liberation": This is the obvious Nazi era vignette, but it is more subtle than you might think. The V2 rockets (actually "A4", the "V" designator means "Vergeltungswaffe" - "Retaliation Weapon" -the first ballistic missile) where built by slave labour and killed more in their construction than they did falling on London and freed France. Then there's Germania, wearing an SS Uniform and an eyepatch... over the *Right Eye* - i.e. she's "Blind on the Right Eye" - a common post war phrase when the Government or it's agencies saw fit to overlook right wing activities. The Band also represent not just Jews but *all* Holocaust victims, as can be seen from the different coloured designators on their chests - Gays, Jehovah's Witnesses, Leftists... Vignettes "Red Army Faction": The RAF (not to be confused with the "Royal Air Force") was a 70s/80s left wing terrorist organisation that did pout a couple of spectacular extremely high violence kidnappings and assassinations on the political and economic elites of the Western German state whom they, not entirely unfounded, regarded as unrepentant Nazis. The kidnapping of 80s-bling-Germania also represents the extreme tendency of late Cold War Era to hedonism, sub consciously because the world might end at any time in thermonuclear fire, so who cares? Similar to the Weimar Era mentality of an fin-de-siecle-esque feel, just as a whole society. Also: German shepherds and special forces, two kinds of domesticated warriors, inheritors of older martial traditions. Vignettes "An Old New Breed of Dogs": Here Germania gives birth to a litter of dogs whom we later learn to be represented by the Band - the Old Germanic Wolfs from the start in a new fur, changed but unchanged. The "Red Line": There's red laser lines everywhere in every scene represents the concept of a "Red Line" designating in German language a through line in different contexts, linking seemingly disconnected matters. There's more but those are the most obvious things. Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

The space crew was a rescue crew for Germania. In Rammstein style she is a young black goddess. The wolfs she is giving birth you’ll find at the beginning too. At the end you can witness how the powerful like religious people take her fruit, the wolves, to abuse this nation for another time after centuries of suffering and violence and leave Germania dead on the maternity bed. The rescue team from the future brings the coffin right at the beginning and sends the dead abused and mistreated Germania home through the space ad astra (to the stars). Greetz from Germany. Let us look back and learn, without anger…
