I'm a man that has a 23 year old son... I am a man...not a wimp... That said, this song brings a tear to my eye.

Ugly Kid Joe is one of the most underrated metal/rock bands of the 90s. They had a couple of hits here in Australia with this song, Neighbor and Everything About You. The last two being a kind of irreverent, light-hearted takes on metal songs. UKJ supported many of the top acts of their time, Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leopard, Van Halen and Aerosmith among others. Rob Halford even provided even provided backing vocals on one of their songs (Goddam Devil, I think). I think UKJ still record from time to time and their lead singer, Whitfield Crane had (has) a side project called Orchestra of Doom, where he covers songs from some metal legends and sets them to orchestral instruments. It's pretty cool.

I like that background you have. Remind me when I used to live in Wisconsin. I remember walking to school and weather like that. Heck I walked to McDonald's or Burger King in weather like that or three other pizzerias that was in walking distance though. Yeah where I live now town is over 10 MILES. Last place I lived in Wisconsin. A dairy ripple. It was a little walk up ice cream shop. You had to go into South Beloit but I rather have theirs than dairy Queen for vanilla ice cream at least. Three different McDonald's three different pizzerias Burger King Subway the mall and the library.

The song is about deciding what is really important in life. The only thing we really leave, after we go, is the memories, and the effect we have on others lives. The extra $200. you made on a Wednesday, when you were 38, means nothing.

Your reaction is the same as mine every single time I hear this song, both this and the original by Harry Chapin

This song is pretty harsh, I remember hearing the original one. The way you winced as the song progressed is exactly how I felt.

Harry Chapin did this song originally in 1974. Ugly Kid Joe did a good cover, but I like the original by Chapin best. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYbam4F4n9aFY8U

Doesn't have the same effect as much as Harry Chapin does for me.
