We are so proud of our Cantonese heritage. There are a lot of overseas Cantonese. We will keep our culture to be passed along to future generations. Cantonese is a lively way of speaking.
As a Cantonese American, the diminishing presence of Cantonese in Guangzhou deeply saddens me. To me, Cantonese is not merely a dialect but a rich, full-fledged language with its own unique syntax, vocabulary, and cultural significance. This language embodies a distinct heritage and identity, reflecting centuries of history and traditions. Its decline is not just a loss of a linguistic form but a fading of cultural richness and diversity. Cantonese has its own literature, art, and even cinema, which have contributed significantly to the cultural tapestry of not only Guangzhou but the broader Chinese diaspora. Watching this language lose its vibrancy and prevalence in its own homeland is disheartening, as each language, including Cantonese, serves as a vital conduit of cultural expression and historical narrative.

100% agree. It's very sad. 😢 The goal of the government is to extinguish all local cultures and languages, so that it's easier to then to rule and brainwash.

This reflection speaks to a universal challenge of maintaining linguistic diversity in a rapidly changing world, where languages are often a marker of cultural identity and history.
As a Cantonese, I don't mind my hometown Guangzhou is no longer a "first-tier city". We prefer a low-key and peaceful living style.

still speak. but just only for the elders. new younger generation they most speck mandarin rather than cantonese, that's a pathetic truth in today's Guangzhou. As a local, I am so shame of it.@@hackashaq8
