The technique is not Yodeling, it‘s called Tibetan Cavity. Tibetan cavity has several characteristics: 1. The resonance cavity is the oral cavity and head cavity, but there is absolutely no nasal cavity or chest cavity. 2. The resonance position is close to the vocal cords, neither forward nor backward. 3. Resolutely filter out overtones, so the sound is particularly clean, translucent, and highly penetrating. 4. The voice should be natural and bright, and should be sung forward. Try to make the voice as straight as possible, but it should be supported by a deep breath, and should not be shaken. 5. Tibetan people’s vocal cords are thin, short, strong and durable, and they basically rely on vowel sounds to sing. Their vocal characteristics are small cavity and less resonance.

In west yodelling is definitely one of the style that is more similar though, since it also originates from people living in mountains. With similar living conditions it's not abnormal to develop singing style that have similarities
I'm crying with your review. You don't know how moving is to hear such a great singert and vocal coach like you say Wei Wei is an amazaing and great singer.

Pleae do more of Wei Wei, she has really beautiful and amazing songs. I can go all day listening to her.

And for your info, Wei Wei has a lot of tattoos that are censored/Covered! That's thy she is almost always using long sleeved clothing on tv.
The song was rearranged as dialogue between her and her deceased father (the back singer), reflecting her finally being able to understand him which she was unable to while he was alive. She was able to let go of all her emotional baggage standing between them. There were tears of relief toward the end.

She was singing to her father who had passed away years ago. BTW, traditional Mongolian songs have a lot of that sound(the yodel like one). I think that's because they used to live in a nomadic pastoral way , and that sound comes from they imitating the sound of horses.

This is my most favorite review and reaction from her. I had watched it several times and every time makes me laugh. Chinese may not allowed the tattoos showing on their shows but they most definitely love blond hair.

This episode is funny, I love it. I can't help laughing... keep it up!
The "yodeling" sound base on coach understanding its not really a western yodeling technic, its one of the tibetan traditional singing technic which may sound like yodeling but its quite difference from yodeling if listen carefully. She so emotional because she dedicating this song to her father who live in heaven.

It’s not sad romantic song. It was a folk song, she re-arranged it and dedicated it to her late father. That’s why it was powerful and emotional.

I love this song and even cried at first time when I heard Sitar tan sang, maybe long times ago. I am so happy that you like this song while commenting and analyzing this song with professional view. Like your channel❤
I'm so glad finally Rozette did a review on Tan Wei Wei. She is one of the powerful singer, I was hoping you do a reviewed on Ulanbatar and my wish came true.
The "back singer" is the lead singer of the Mongolian band "Hanggai". Hanggai has been popular on the international music festival circuit but only rose to something near national fame around 8, 10 years when they won in the show, China's Good Song, with "Reincarnation". (This is a spectacular song, which Haggai wrote based on the theme given to the contestants, "last year") . Wei Wei did some good cover of this song as well. Wei Wei is not a Han, but an ethnic minority, I believe. re your discussion around 11:00 --, we can hear similar technique in singing amongst our ethnic minorities. At least it's not unfamiliar to my ears

tan weiwei has a whole sleeve of tattoo, which is why she always wear full sleeves, tattoo is not allowed to be shown on tv. def check out her perfromance with alin at 金曲奖, she sounds seriously better unedited, you can tell how freaking good she is !!! tanweiwei have so many different techniques up her sleeve, and her pitch is so accurate, great agility, power, just all around so good.
Tang Wei-Wei is one of the best female singer in modern Chinese music field, maybe you guys can react her rock-'n-roll style vocal songs, she is really great! and also Rozette is the best!
she sang this for her deceased father there was a part she added into the song - the part where you mentioned there was a long hold, with only a slight vibrato the lyrics goes like this: hey, i believe you are around, you are around in this world, in every corner of my life hey, i believe you are around, you pass through the wind, through the clouds, through everything to come back here
