This episode of History Adventures will be going to check out some Guadalcanal War Relics.
The Guadalcanal campaign was the longest in the Pacific theater from August 7 1942 to February 9 1943. Here on Guadalcanal there was air, land and sea combat and later the area served as a training location for future operations in the pacific. With the amount of men and equipment fighting here there is an incredible amount of war relics in the jungles and in the ocean. Some of these relics are now on display at museums or where they were left during World War II. Lets go take a look at some of the Guadalcanal War Relics.

My Dad was in the New Zealand third Division and he was among 30 Kiwi troops to land on Guadalcanal in 1942 , during a Japanese bombing mission , a large bomb fell near to where Dad and his mates were in shallow fox holes , the bomb did not detonate and at dawn the US Marine engineers removed the bomb and asked Dad if they would like it placed on its fins outside their camp , they agreed and the bomb was placed later that day , Dad painted the word " KIWI " on the bomb and the US marines used to stop and ask what K One , W , One meant , always made me smile listening to Dad telling the story many times . Thanks for visiting " The Canal "

My father fought at Guadalcanal as a Navy Seabee, 111th Special Battalion. Part of Special Forces in those days. He had nightmares into my older teen years of defending it, which was harder than taking it. He was bayonetted by a Japanese soldier in his foxhole. " We were overrun 5 or 6 to one...IDK...I lost count". He had the presence of mind to grab his M1 and kill the man who tried to kill him.

I was fortunate enough to work Guadalcanal during the 90’s and having been in the ADF, appreciated greatly you bringing back memories of my visits to the various wrecks and memorials. It was hard to imagine the carnage in this beautiful place amongst such wonderfully friendly locals, especially when enjoying a cold beer on the veranda of our house in the hills behind Honiara (in the evening as the sun went down and the Fireflies came out, overlooking Iron Bottom Sound and Savo Island). However, reality hit every time we dug up live Motars, Phosphorous Bombs, Grenades and American and Japanese helmets (live explosives collected and disposed of by the Solomon Defence Force every week, with all the other munitions they collected). Had the honour and privilege of meeting American and Japanese Veterans during visits to the many memorials - really highlighted the pain and futility of war, as they invariably joined each other in remembering lost comrades (funny how the Politicians that start wars, never serve and experience the combat, pain and destruction they started). RIP all the fallen - Lest We Forget. Thanks for sharing these videos. 👍🇦🇺

On some of the islands what appeared to be heavy jungle were great piles of military equipment overgrown with vines and trees.

Kerry Neal. You are to be greatly thanked for your efforts to allow people from around the globe to get an understanding of the magnitude and scale of sacrifice that happened on Guadalcanal. As a New Zealander I along with many others will never forget that without the supreme effort of US forces on Guadalcanal and in the corral Sea ,New Zealand would have most likely experienced enemy occupation . However, New Zealand played its part in the conflict. As you probably know ,our navy destroyer a very large submarine but one of the boats involved ,after being bombed can now be seen lying on the bottom of Tulagi Harbour . Just one small point about the very clear commentary. I’m interested to know why when pronouncing Guadalcanal the letter l in Guadal is not pronounced. Thank you anyway 8:16

Is Pistol Pete (Japanese gun) still just outside Honiara? Also the American Sherman tank had the name "Jezebel" in yellow (faded) on the side when I seen it in 1985. The LVT's look the same as in 1985. Did you do the long walk to Matakanau Falls along the battlefields overlooking Honiara? Is the Henderson Field steel ATC tower still at the airport? You need to correct your audio. At 0:25, you state the campaign began in Aug 1943. It started in 1942.

I have binged watched your videos. I'm sure you are aware a verbal slip at the beginning of this video when providing the date....Anycase, hopefully any one with a brain (excluding those from skull island of course) realized you were referencing 1942-1943...Regardless, I wake up daily facing the reality I've many more memories to relfect on than to make...Before my time on earth is done, I pray I'm able to visit the Solomon Islands...although, with their alliance with China I'm afraid the islands will soon be overwhelmed with the communist Chinese expansion objectives....they use money as their influence vs weapons at this time...Regardless, I too have been fascinated with history, particularly Battles, Wars, etc from the earliest age....having an Uncle who lived with my family after he was severly wounded in Vietnam in 1969-1970 to growing up in the south...hearing the Civil War narrative being skewed, revised to fit false narratives that permeate society today...I've walked battlefields of the American Revolution, Civil War....Gettysburg, Vicksburg and many others...As a youngster I often would spend hours in the fields and woods digging and finding arrow heads and other relics from Native Americans...the most oppressed, abused, lied to and lied about people in American History...my mother's geneology is part of the CREEK NATION...I guess, due to reading, listening, watching documentaries that skewed the facts and placing those such as Abraham Lincoln on a Pedastal while villianizing men of character and true Patriotic Americans such as Robert E Lee (Lincoln's 1st choice to lead the Union Army but respectfully declined due to knowing the true reason for the WAR)...while Hitler, Stalin, Imperial Japanese, Pot of Cambodia, and other dictators committed genocide that has been well documented I find it hypocritical and disgusting American History dismisses or ignores the genocide conducted at the orders of Presidents such as Lincoln against Native Americans....exterminating countless blood lines, tribes forcing them to come together and still more were slaughtered at a rate or a % that exceeded that of what Hitler did...I understand, the Victor's write the history... but...I worry facts and existing stereotypes will remain and the lies will completely erode all traces of reality in the coming years... Evenso, the battlefields I have not been able to walk, visit, to experience are those of WWII.... I have many relatives who fought and died, wounded and or endured almost every WAR or conflict America has been involved including myself. If there is ever a need or simply interest in having a shadow to accompany you on some of these please reach out. War is horrible but has always existed and always will. BUT WWII and the sacrafice and prices paid by every American should NEVER BE FORGOTTEN... The thought of their sacrafices being ignored in today's America is disheartening....before these places are rendered to the archives of history and stored never to be shared again is something I wish I had the means and the ability to preserve...since I do not have that...at the least, I want to walk the beaches of Normandy, through the Ardennes, and other places in the ETO and of course the PTO...enjoy your work...Looking forward to viewing your work on Amazon. Take Care. ps. Apologize for the rant and hastily typed message
