It might seem so simple but it resonated with me... "Don't write a poem about war, write a poem about what it's like to stand in your brother's empty bedroom" Absolutely perfect way of wording that. I've been a fan of your work for years but just recently started trying my hand at writing and I can't wait to check out every video in this series. Much love, Brother.

Hey Guante! I just discovered your Slam Poetry videos last week and now that I have discovered slam poetry I have become an enormous fan! As a fan suggestion, could you be willing to remake these tutorial videos with a better camera in an outdoor setting perhaps? I would love for you videos to become more widely viewed and this could be a stepping stone towards that if you decided to take that route!

Could you put all the poems that you cite in the video description? Not sure how to spell some of those poets and it makes it hard to search for em

I just started doing spoken word and plan on entering my first slam soon. Thank you so much for these tips! You put them in a way I can understand and use right away and that is much appreciated! Check out the 2 poems on my channel if you wish :3 they are super raw and amateur but that's kind of why I like them. Thanks again! Keep it up you rock!

Question for anyone with an answer, Guante, expert or other... 18 years old living in Australia, I'm in my last year of highschool and I want to know how I can get involved in the movement. Writing, poetry, words, whatever. Can someone point me in the write direction? ;)

There will be a video addressing that, but in the meantime, aside from just writing as much as you can, I think it's about community-- it starts with finding other people who do what you do; maybe open mics, school clubs, libraries, a writing circle with some friends, etc. Failing that, maybe online communities devoted to spoken-word. In my experience, that's where networking, sharpening, and building happens. When you have a community, you can bounce ideas around and plot next steps. May be easier said than done in some locales, but I hope that makes sense.

I'll be looking forward to that video, thankyou man. Community is what I'm after, I'll have a look for some spoken word forums. If you have any to recommend I'd love to check them out.
