Great vid and I couldn't agree more. Allow me to add few points and share my experience. 1. Know what needs to be improved 2. Choose the correct drill methods 3. Do the drill [on our own - not with our mates!] One of my fav drills is I put the OB on the spot and I shoot from each diamond [5x]. So I will have 18 different shot positions [from 18 diamonds on the table]. Then I recorded how many times I missed / succeed in each diamond using excel [and created a chart from those data]. So I know that I frequently missed on my long shot due to lack of focus, wrong aiming point, bad stroke, use too much power, etc. Btw where and when is your next tournament Jasmin??

She’s not lying. This summer I did some of Tor’s exercises for 5-6 hours in a row for a few days. That amount of time just being patient, writing down how I’m feeling and putting a mirror in front of me stepped my games up to another dimension. I hadn’t shot as often like the summer but when I get on the table it comes back to me faster than ever. It’s also important to note mentality when approaching these drills she speaks of. Do NOT over coach yourself. Let your body and mind and focus naturally correct you into that feel of where to aim and internalise that feeling when you make the shots. You’ll thank yourself so much in the long run.

You have to love KZbin. One thing that I have noticed in my playing after watching SVB for years is that I kinda "channel" him especially when I'm playing well. I have the same rolling hitch that he uses to start his swing going back but I have not as yet mastered his special silky follow-through. I still feel as though I punch too many shots. I played a lot of golf years ago and I would find myself gravitating toward a particular player, in my case Nick Faldo (mostly). That changed a little as I realized I was not actually playing like him at all but as a kind of mind-game it gave me a lot of confidence when playing difficult golf courses. Same seems to be for pool where I tap into my inner-SVB and viola I play smarter smoother and with an abundance of confidence. That in-turn takes away a lot of playing anxiety. I think...OK I have seen SVB handle this, let's play it smart (maybe a killer safety) and smooth To a great extent it works, not 100% of course I'm not SVB and never will be but I tell you it works. Try it...find a player you feel speaks to you and watch how they play and just channel their skills into your game and see what happens. I predict you will enjoy the overall improvement in your play, not to pro-levels but noticeable improvement or at least enjoyment.

@@truss6282 How realistic is it for me at 56 to be competitive in a tournament?
@Derek_1111 Жыл бұрын
@edwardwallace1633 depends on the tournament and level of competition vs your skill level. Some small bar tourney you may have a chance In but a bigger one with semi pros and pros you may be able to win a match here and there early in the tourney if you get matched up vs another amateur. But several rounds in you'll eventually run into a high level player and get smoked. Those players make very few mistakes.

@@edwardwallace1633 I think more importantly than winning tournaments is pool is a great hobby/activity you can do as you age unlike other sports that become more tough or maybe even not possible to play do to physical limitations. I'm 43 myself and I still haven't hit my ceiling. I do practice/shoot about 4-5 days a week. Been playing since I was a kid but have been playing consistently since I was about 30. Not to mention the social aspect of it as well. Some of the friends I have these days are the ones I've met at the pool hall.

The real name of "body memory" is kinesthesic memory. It's the same sort of memory used by precision sports like archery or target shooting, by musicians or craftpersons (cabinet maker, sewer, ...).

I would love to see a two time speed session where Jasmin shoots the 150 balls of the same shot including the pre-shot routine. It’s OK for the pro’s to say shoot 150 balls, but they never show themselves actually doing it. It would be a motivator to try to get a better score than the pro.

Hi Jasmine, thanks for the great lessons. Can you tell me how you hit the Q ball when you want it to stop after it hits the target ball?
@shaunpage4498 Жыл бұрын
I'm not Jasmine but I can answer your question. A stop shot only works for relatively straight shots. You have to hit between center and below center on the cue ball. The farther away the object ball, the more below center you have to hit on the cue ball to get it to stop. Look up stop shots on youtube for more info.

@FishbrainMnt Жыл бұрын
Ok, lets for example say you pot 150 times a given ball with a tip of right spin. In match you get the same position of balls but now you have to use reverse follow for position and this is completely different shot. My point is - every shot is different and doing the same shot x number of times in a row will build instincts for exactly this shot and that's it. IMO this drill may help with shot's which are really uncomfortable for you personally, but it won't help that much for building your game. Exception is straight shots where you can easy train your aim, line, stroke...
@MikeyD22 Жыл бұрын
Great point, 100% agreed. The method described in the video would most effectively address weaknesses - shots that a player consistently struggles with.
@Derek_1111 Жыл бұрын
I think the main principle of the idea is to train the shot until it becomes muscle memory. There's quite a few tip positions all a fraction away from each other so it's take thousands of shots for any given set up to hit them all. Then add in different stroke lengths and speed for where you're trying to get the cue back to... Eventually though you learn how you need to change the aim point for the English you're using and that can carry over to many different shots. My favorite way to practice shot making and position play Is just by playing 9/10 ball vs the ghost. If at any point I miss the shot or don't get position the "punishment" is to set the shot back up and shoot it 10x. (Hoping to make and get position all 10x) If I'm still struggling with it I'll shoot it even more. That way the practice session focuses on practicing weaker areas of my game.
@FairfieldAuction Жыл бұрын
I would compare to basketball. If you practice a turnaround jumper at the elbow a lot you will have more confidence and success shooting in that area even though every shot is a little different. The changes in tip position and tiny adjustments for throw, etc are essentially automatic at a point so the fact you didn't practice that variation is almost moot. It's all in your subconcience not your thinking mind.

Repetition is great to improve our game, sure. But being overconfident isn't always the best approach. The number of easy shots I've seen pro's miss from being overconfident isn't even strange anymore. Every shot has to be taken seriously, not just left to muscle memory. Can't just switch off like that, especially on the seemingly easier shots.

@jasminouschan What a lot of your skilled audience would like to know, are the shots the pros know, that good, but not pro players, don't. When we see you slide the cue ball 4 inches to the left around the side pockets, for perfect shape, we can only imagine how you actually hit that shot, but it would be nice to show us. Demonstrate the shots that only pros can execute regularly, mainly because good players, just don't know how.
