Very useful video, I never thought of a 30 year guarantee. This would be really helpful for someone who uses part of their fund to purchase an annuity to cover the basics and leave the remaining fund in drawdown. A good strategy to mitigate sequencing risk. Thank you 😊

43 next month but for the last 2 months I've found all my pensions and watched loads of your videos to see what's best for me and how to make them grow for my target age of 60.. I feel like an expert learning from you, even helping my mates out telling them to sort pensions out now rather than last minute... thanks for your help, and if you still about in 17yrs I'll give you a shout 😉

Hi Ed, i found your channel searching for Bailey Caravans. I watched to the end but am still non the wiser as to buying a single or double axel caravan. I am however now subscribed. Seriously some great content on this channel. Pickles projections in various scenarios are very helpful. lots of decisions coming up for me and my family as my wife and I approach 55, so will be keeping up to speed with your channel

🤣 glad you found me and hope you find your answer as to whether to go for the double or single!!
@simonportlock22353 жыл бұрын
My thoughts on your caravan issue is, buy a single axle caravan. It's easier to manoeuvre around, less on tyre wear, and you will save money on tyre wear as well. Any other sensible questions, ask Ed, I haven't got a clue. Stay safe and enjoy your caravan.
@EdmundBaileyUK3 жыл бұрын
I have definitely learnt something new here today that I never even knew was an issue… I don’t know if I’ll ever buy a caravan but if I do, I know a little bit more than I did yesterday! 🤣 Thanks Simon

Thank you Edmund, very useful info! Annuity rates look even better in 2023, so I'm tempted now to take one out to combine with the State Pension I can get next year. I'm thinking of using half my pot for this and transfer the other half to use for Drawdown. The only doubt I have is whether to take a lifetime one now while the rates are high, or a fixed-term one for say 6 years, in case I have a medical condition in the future which could boost the income if taking out another annuity! Decisions, decisions! 😅(watched to the end, btw!)

Thanks for sticking with it Phil!! 👍👍The demand for them has been steadily increasing, it’s an interesting one to know about as for some it will be far more appropriate than drawdown, and being exposed to equities and bonds.

I watched to the end. I think you are doing the right thing to explain the annuity ideas to beginners. I know there is a lot of maths and probability in every corner AND that most people don't have time for it... Oh well. Thanks for the video. Have you tried Patreon - or any other places let us know when you do in the "more" section. SuperThanks wants me to give my details to GPay... not doing that. ALSO - if you have knowledge that would help "overseas" issues - that would be worth putting out feelers for. There are more people in England looking to put their money abroad than ever... and some looking to to bring it back.... and then there are new arrivals to the UK... anyway thanks for sharing what you know.

Edmund, I've watched to the end. I've only recently started to follow you. I am going through a divorce and my ex-wife earns a lot more than me, and always has; however my assets are greater, so I now lose more. So once the divorce is done, I'm looking to rebuild. Unfortunately, I'm not working at the moment and I am unable to get a job. As I have assets, the DWP won't help either, along with the CAB. In spite the plethora of personal issues which seems to plague me. I do enjoy your channel, and it has given me plenty of food for thought.
@EdmundBaileyUK3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Simon, and thanks for the kind words. Sorry to read of your divorce as these situations are never easy or simple as no one has a position where everything was split neatly down the middle in terms of income and assets etc. It unfortunately comes down to negotiation and what the two parties agree/their legal teams get. I hope you get to a good position post the divorce.

Watched to the end. I'd be interested in hearing of any advantages to annuities as they seem to be out of favour with most financial planners. Are they useful? I suppose the answer will be "It depends..."
@EdmundBaileyUK3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Eamonn!! Massively appreciate that! And spot on… it really does come down to personal preference, funds age, capacity for loss, attitude to risk etc. But I do like mixing the certainty of income combined with drawdown especially with the income available on cash and fixed interest being so poor! Thanks again for the comment! 👍

Well done on making it to the end!! 😊 Ask away and sounds interesting, I have some experience with the military pension having helped out my brother in law.

My Military pension pays up @ 60, there's a tax-free lump sum (hello new car) and £3k p.a As I will not be retiring in all likelihood until 67, am I able to inject that £3k p.a directly into my SIPP ? Thanks for the great vids, I'm recommending you to my friends
@EdmundBaileyUK3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind comments and for recommending them, that's really appreciated, thanks!! 👍 Yes you can pay the £3k over into your SIPP. You would get tax relief on that contribution of 20%, so an extra £750 would be added to your SIPP for you and you would also be able to claim an extra 20% via self assessment if you are a higher rate taxpayer. The possible area to watch for is that you have sufficient employed earnings to make those contributions, for example the annual allowance is the lower of your relevant earnings (basically your salary) or £40,000 per year. Having said that even as a non earner someone can contribute up to £3,600 gross per year. Hope that helps.
@thewinkler6647 Жыл бұрын
Very helpful Edmund, thank you. I am looking to buy into an annuity as a separate egg in my basket along side a SIPP I am paying into to at present. A question to you. I am planning to retire at age 60 in 2 years or so, can I buy a guaranteed fixed rate annuity now so as to grow my investment prior to my retirement age?

Why worry about losing some of your money on death- you actually lose everything on death. What you really get from an annuity is security- often called peace of mind. Some find that of more value than concerns about 'lost' money (which actually funds those that live long. This is how insurance works. It protects you from the 'risk' of living long...) Yep, watched until the end.

I was surprised by the small difference in monthly payment that these guarantees make. Presume it because you chose a 65 year old who is likely to live another 20 years or so; does the delta increase as you age.
