As far as the two brands go, Guardian Tactical gets points for its unique deployment mechanism, lower prices, and the fact that they use torx hardware. Microtech gets points for better style/aesthetics (imo), their superior legacy/reputation, and the seemingly endless variation/variety in the range of models in their catalog and the configurations they are offered in. Also, Microtech has WAY more unique/special models. I think Guardian Tactical makes 1: The Recon Elite. Whereas Microtech has the Signature Series knives, the Bounty Hunter, the Delta Frag, the see-thru handle scales, and countless other special/limited editions and unique variants and configurations. At the end of the day, Microtech is still #1 in the high end production OTF game and I don’t see that changing any time soon. Guardian Tactical is probably #2 with Heretic Knives following close behind them at #3. Although I’m sure there’s a compelling case to be made for Heretic being #2 and Guardian Tactical being #3.

I own all three. The Colossus, despite it's name is actually a good bit smaller than both with a 3.5 inch blade. However, the Colossus has the least amount of blade play out of the three. As stated in this video, the Recon 040 has the smoothest and easiest to operate switch, the Colossus has a very stiff switch, and the C.T. is right in the middle. If you're into steels, then the Colossus comes in magnacut only, the Recon is in Elmax only, and most C.T.'s are going to be in M390. In terms of durability, I would consider them all pretty equal.

The overall length of the knife is immaterial to anything relevant to human existence. What IS relevant is BLADE length! The GT O40 beats the MT Troodon by "a mile" in typical hair-splitting internet terms. The GT 040 blade is indeed MASSIVE, thick, and does have a viable front blade lock that should hold up to repeated stabbing into a human skull. MT's front blade lock is a massive little slab and may hold up better...only way to know is for someone with plenty of money to waste, to do a comparison destruction test. EITHER will stab through all human bones IF the user has the suds to make it happen. But here's the thing. The blades are TOO SHORT! Four inch blades are limited to necks and direct sternal penetration for any sort of killing stroke and THAT will require the entire blade to be involved. The original "killing" knife is of course the Italian Stiletto, 13" with honest 6" long, bayonet ground blade! The Stiletto will PUNCH THROUGH human skulls and all other flat bones such as the sternum, and easily reach deep vital structures! Even the lauded MT Halo is a mere "piker' in the company of a genuine Frank B 11" stiletto with 5" stabbing blade, and certainly the 13" with a full 6" of stabbing depth! Slashing wounds are messy, but seldom mortal. STABBING wounds tend to be mortal wounds...

@evanacey14144 жыл бұрын
No way man. The Halo is a single action OTF. Which means you don’t just pull the switch down to retract the blade like double action OTF’s. After firing the Halo you have to hold down a button safety and manually pull the blade back down into the handle to reload it in order to be able to deploy it again. WAY more inconvenient. Not to mention the fact that it’s impossible to carry in your pocket due to its size.

The most ridiculous thing about microtech is the screws, it's stupid that they charge so much for the tools to open their knives. I get making your own screws especially the microtech screws with a point that keep your knife from sitting flat on a surface. But they charge so much for the tools and they don't give you them when you hand over your first born to buy one of their knives lol. If your a company who is making your own proprietary screws or bolts, then you need to include the tool with the product. For the customer. Especially when the cost is so high. I'm not paying 500 or more for an item and then having to fork out another 200 for the tool

@randallscott-key8023 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the time and effort put into this video and who doesn't love comparison videos! But I do have a few issues starting with the use of decimal numbers to record blade width...WHY? Is the metric system really that difficult to learn? Why do people insist on using fractions and decimals for all measures less than a full inch, when it is so much easier to switch over to millimeters and give us a POSITIVE number? "A hundred and fifty thousandths"...WTF does that mean? Of course I KNOW exactly what it means and how to read a dial caliper, it's just plain stupid in the face of a far superior system that can always give positive numbers even at the scales far below what we normally work with. My next issue is with Guardian Tactical's tactical blunder in not using large head or flange screws. The purpose of a large flange screw is to increase clamping force by means of greater surface area, and to decrease the potential for a softer alloy substrate to pull off the screw by deformation. Microtech seems to get it...if that knife had to act as a bridge with the blade locked out and a weight suspended at the blade-to-handle juncture, the superior clamping force of the MT screw design would resist deformation of the aluminum top cover and chassis better than the tiny screws used on the Guardian Tactical.

One more question: Why isn't the Benchmade Infidel in this comparison? It certainly cost enough to be considered, and though BM doesn't seem interested in offering a party pack of blade styles just to increase the desirability factor, they have managed to remain consistently high on the list of those who choose to carry a DA OTF for serious business. The Infidel has a far superior blade deployment "feel" and feedback...a slightly longer stroke with less required force, and the Infidel uses a set of steel, parallel chassis sub-frames for superior blade support, along with a three-point blade locking system and unbreakable, dual blade locks.

When it comes to STABBING, fractions of an inch count. The longer the blade the better. Anybody "slashing" an adversary is a total idiot and deserves what happens next. The knifes name has combat in it. Ultratech isnt. Combat Troodon was designed for soecial forces and is a battle knife Like the KaBar But yes most of them are owned by civilians. If i use a sword to clear shrubs is ut not built to chop people now?

Monster sized? Or just regular sized for us guys with big hands lol 😆.

Yes. Some normal sized objects appear small to big people, and some normal sized objects appear big to small people. And sometimes, some objects that appear large to average sized people appear as average sized objects to large people. Keen observation 👍 This is sarcasm.

Damn I was just making a joke. Didn't have to get all technical on me lol. Didn't mean to offend all the small handed soy boys out there.

My new Recon Elite should be here on Monday! Super excited to finally get that in my hand. Went with the Elite just because of the tanto blade. I wish they had the dagger blade though too. Also wish the Elite wasnt $450 bucks!!! And have that stupid US protective service bullshit on it, but whatever... watch them bring out the 40 with all the blades now that I bought the Elite. That is my luck... The recon elite is down to the same weight as your Combat Troodon with the tanto blade tho.

I agree with you completely! The stupid shield and flag logos look absolutely ridiculous especially if you aren't a member of the protective services 🤣 I'm glad someone said it! Why did they do that to their most badass knife lol? I just went with the regular 040 because it didn't have the doofy auxiliary citizen police badge clipart. Man I love grind and the aggressive double fuller though! If they made a sterile version without extra logos, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
@studdaman4203 жыл бұрын
@@jaypolaski5378 Yeah that is why I bought it was because of the blade style. On instagram they said they wouldnt make a 040 tanto, but did say they might do it in double edge. I would get one of those for sure. The single edge just isn't my style. Unless it is tanto. Hopefully the D/E comes soon though.
@jaypolaski53783 жыл бұрын
@@studdaman420 that would be badass. I wouldve loved a d/e or tanto blade option! I even saw a really badass Reese Weiland custom ground recon-035 with brass and carbon fiber. It was polished with an insanely cool grind on the blade... Very custom. Looked kinda like a Walter Brend recurve or something... Or kinda like when Microtech does a "star grind"

Have you noticed any excess play on the thumb slide or blade? What about spring tension fading? My new recon 040 has an audible rattle on both the thumb slide and blade..
