Are you confused about the difference between a parent and a biological father? That's genuinely a new concept for you? The line by itself didn't make me tear up, but when Peter is distraught and screaming his name repeatedly, and he just silently stares at him? It sells the parental love so much. Not a shadow of a doubt he was making the wrong call, just doing what any parent would immediately do, and just wanting to look at his son's face while he still could.
