I remember listening to these songs with my parents driving while I was 5-8 years old and hating, but eventually loving them after understanding music in ways only time can teach. He travels the galaxy, I am sure they had the technology to reverse engineer the player and manufacture replacement parts when they wear out or break. Like a Walkman of Theseus kind of thing. How the recording on the tape didn't degrade from the repeated playing is another question... but in science fiction you can always say "they have the technology" to preserve/revert the degradation :)

Alot of awesome songs that could be used in the film because the copyrights had expired... all songs recorded prior to 1974 are in public domain today.

I haven't regularly listened to music for years and then I watched these movies and saw that tape and decided I had to have it. Listen to this ALL the time. I sing to my dog and play with her when the music is on so she loves it as well. I have been stuck in a deep dark depression for many years and this mix just takes it all the way. I literally start dancing. DANCING. I probably don't need to remind you that depressed people don't dance. There's a good reason this mix doesn't have a single dislike

Funny...I've never seen the movie but love the soundtrack! The artists who created all the good music, across all genres, are slowly disappearing but their legacy lives on. Not a computer in sight, just genius and talent. I love it when someone shares that they found a cool new song or they see it used in an ad...and then I tell them it's not new. I love every scene in both movies with the music in it, I love the beginning of vol. 1, when he's dancing to come and get your love, and the start of vol. 2 with Groot dancing to Mr. Blue Sky while everyone else is fighting a massive intergalactic monster. Totally agree. Everytime I hear that opening scene song I think of star lord dancing and grabbing that space rat to use as a mic. Hilarious every time.
