I don't know much about Gudula Kremers, but his harpsichord playing technique is amazing, just like Gunnar Johansen. Thank you for this unique sharing.

I did not expect so many positive responses on this very old recording. As you might notice is Gudula Kremers playing the pieces rather slow and pianistic but as a harpsichord lover I really like that, so the tone and timbres of the pieces can flourish as best as possible. I hope it will be an inspiration for you.

Superlative, vivid playing. I also especially like a lot her piano playing. She was born in Brasil, but lives in Germany. Thank you very much for this upload.

Another great post as always. I am grateful. I am a huge fan of modern production harpsichords. I have a special interest in harpsichords, especially those between 1890 and 1970. Maendler-schramm, Neupert, Goble, Dolmetsch, Wittmayer, Sperrhake, Pleyel etc. It has great tones. I have been collecting and listening only to modern harpsichord music for more than 30 years. The only harpsichord that I cannot understand even after listening to it many times is the harpsichord used by Frank Pelleg in his Goldberg variations, which were recorded live in 1959. Perhaps it was a modified Neupert harpsichord. Pleyel harpsichords have a very different sound and their timbre is not too metallic, it can be distinguished immediately. Goff harpsichords are an example of this. It is very likely that the harpsichord used in this recording is neutral. Because it's a very metallic sound.

Very interesting indeed. I am quite fascinating by the different sounds of instruments and recordings techniques as well. Apart from the performance, they can make or break a recording in my perception, so the more recordings the better. I have to listen to that recording by Frank Pelleg some day. I still think that a Pleyel is used in the Gudula Kremers recording, but the more opinions the better.

Hello, Harpsichord Vinyl Gallery. Thank you for another marvelous upload of my favorite, J.S. Bach. Listening to this with a vodka cocktail in hand, making for a perfect listening experience. 😊

@@HarpsichordVinylGallery I'm currently. Yes, this recording is much better than the one in your previous upload. I love the Pleyel harpsichord. Always reminds me of the great Wanda Landowska. 😁

@@ChildfreeMatto Yes, it does. I am glad I am not the only one enjoying these revival instruments, which were banned in the 1970s in favor of 'historic informed' instruments

@@HarpsichordVinylGallery It is a shame. Since the revival harpsichords get blasted terribly nowadays. They're unique and an interesting time of the return of the harpsichord from hibernation. Without them I'm not sure we would have the historically informed instruments of today.

I am probably wrong but these old records of Bach's music give me the impression to be closer from the original.

These instruments have somehow a mystical and magical touch, but they were banned in the 1970s by authorities like conservatories and influential players. That is why this recording sounds as an ancient excavation we should cherish because it is 100 times closer to the original than any piano performance which is much more popular for J.S. Bach performances nowadays.

Definitely a "revival" instrument. Nice!

It was in poor condition, but it was worth the trouble to polish it again. BTW I became the Purcell recordings of Sebestyén generously by Robert Tifft, but I first have to do some other recordings to make a proper mix of players in the gallery.

I bought the record when I was a student, must have been around 1984, I loved it and I still have the LP!

So good to hear Andreas! The 4' parts were hard to recover without clicks, but I thought it was something special despite the ugly cover and lack of any documentation. Apparently I am in good company 🙂

I don't think the harpsichord is pleyel. neupert harpsichord. The plectrum sound of pleyel harpsichords is high, but the plectrum sound of neupert harpsichords is almost inaudible. You can easily notice this, especially in the gavotte I section.

Interesting observation. You are not the first one to disagree with my perception it might be a Pleyel. I guess I have to revise my opinion. Thanks.

The Album cover designer and editor made a mistake, the 15th Prelude and Fugue from Well Tempered Clavier is in G major. To err is human, to really foul up things give something to a Printer without proof reading your copy.

Thanks, it fits perfectly in the scheme to make it one of the cheapest releases I ever saw. Almost no information at all, and what they could not leave out (the name of the tracks) is not correct. Poor Gudula Kremers, she definitely deserves better.
