Whatever we think about Roja and his Louboutins, that man has been in the perfume business longer than many of us have been alive. He probably knows more about perfume history and perfume than all of us put together. Probably not so much about blending itself, although I'd say he knows a tiny bit. I like some of his perfumes 🤷 although I do find they are often ridiculously priced.

My best friend in France is married to Guerlain and she always wears Mitsouko. It's her scent for life. I live in NYC and every once in a while I will smell a woman wearing Mitsouko. It's amazing. I like what you said. It's foggy and not so clear. I could never pin down exactly what I'm smelling but it's intoxicating. I never smelled Diaghilev but I would like to.

As much as I adore Mitsouko, I am in love with Diaghilev and scrimped and saved to finally own it, so I have to say, it is my all time favorite perfume♥️

You are right.. Diaghilev is clear and you can feel all the notes separetly.. and you are playing at the stadium.. Mitsouko would be in the VIP lodge drinking champagne and dont give a f***.. And thats fine.. Its good to have more perfumes like these two in the future so the genre remain alive ❤

I also prefer Diaghilev. For me, wearing Diaghilev is like wearing four perfumes on the same day. The stages of notes are so clearly defined. First, it starts off spicy with clove, cinnamon, oakmoss. After that settles, the peach and powdery florals come out. Third stage is this almost woody leathery shaving foam with some patchouli and remnants of the smoky oakmoss. The last stage is the musky civet that stays for hours and hours. Definitely takes you for a ride.

Yes yes yes I've been wanting to hear this discussion... Especially since Roja WORKED at Guerlain (it's weird this wasn't mentioned in the video) but yeah, there are so many connections... I own several VINTAGE (still with copious oakmoss inside) extraits of Mitsouko, one from 1988... Eugen's feelings about chypres are the same as mine- LOVE... and while I LOVE Mitsouko, I also find Diaghilev more multi-faceted and frankly, more interesting... I also have to admit that it is slightly less linear (on me) thank Mitsouko... And Mitsouko doesn't have the depth of animalic touches... Great analogies and really happy to watch this video...

Diaghilev is the present while Mitsuoko is the memory. EDIT: I always feel a sense of melancholy whenever I sniff Mitzy whereas Dia gives me moments of joy. The danger to that is that Diaghilev also makes me feel like I'm living in a simulation of the past. This is why I wear gourmands instead (they're cozy & provide me a sense of reassurance.)

Mitsouko is a blend, that seems like it isn't composed of many different parts, it's just 'Mitsouko' whereas Diaghilev is a combination of different notes that once put together, still feel like separate, identifiable parts of a jigsaw ' Love you x

No he didn’t, he’s full of shit, too afraid to admit the Mitsuoko sold today is pure GARBAGE. And THATS what we are comparing. Not vintage “can’t find to buy” Mitsuoko. Diaghilev is a beautiful masterpiece fragrance and worth the price. Mitsuoko can’t touch the masterpiece that is Diaghilev. Nor are they the same. I had both on, they smell nothing alike. My 2021 bottle of Mitsuoko is probably going in garbage. Watered down crapola not worth 5 cents. I don’t know how Guerlain can sell such garbage. I have no respect for Guerlain anymore . The house sells nothing but garbage since 2001. All overpriced garbage

I think Diaghilev has a larger labdanum dosage in it. This makes it feel a little thicker and has more depth. Both have quite a bit of oakmoss (the stuff that has the naughty bits removed). I am sure with the civet in the original Mitsouko, it would have had an extra depth and warmth.

That's interesting. "Oakmoss but with the naught bits removed." What do you mean by this? The reason I ask is because I just got a candle by Scents of Wood, "Oak in Oak." I don't like it. It smells woody, yes, which I love, and smoky too. What I don't like about it is that it smells like an old wet shoe. It's kind of gross. Is this what you mean by naughty bits?

At about 11 minutes or so, there is this wonderful accidental shot of the gold reflection of the Roja label illuminating your face. With the slight pause it's like you've tempted by the darkness of Roja away from the light that is the wonderful Mitsouko hahaha.

Both fragrances are divine and a must try for anyone who hasn't. Diaghilev is an unreal fragrance that lasts longer on the skin, in my opinion. However, Mitsouko is the original and has a much much lower price tag.

Im a sucker for quality chypres as well! Owh that zing that ignites every spark plugs in my brain immediately upon spraying it.. ahh.. ok, so as someone who owns Diaghilev and Mitsouko extrait, sure Diaghilev is so evidently Mitsouko by another name.. but thats just half the story. Diaghilev has another side to it thats equally obvious where it is also Chypre Palatin by MDCI. But dont take this as a promotion to just own Diaghilev to scratch both itch to save money because if you love the original 2, you will unfortunately need to own all 3 🙈🙉🙊 To me Diaghilev is like a utility scent and hence why I wear it the most out. I wear Mitsouko only when I’m at home, meaning I wear it the least but its the one I love most. Chypre Palatin on the other hand is strictly for men only excursions lol

To be fair, I think Diaghilev has alcohol in it, and the mitsouko doesn’t. That 30ml bottle of mitsouko is probably all fragrance oils, and the Diaghilev 100ml has a total of 30ml fragrance oils

They're both Extrait de Parfum concentration. They both contain alcohol. Diaghilev contains much more natural materials than Mitsouko. Vintage Mitsouko (the original Parfum that has been re-made at the Osmotheque in Versailles) is possibly the most beautiful Parfum ever made. The current (modern version) of Mitsouko Parfum is merely a whisper of its former self. Diaghilev has captured that old world feel masterfully and to me does not smell like Mitsouko at all. Sure, I would put it in the same category stylewise (Baroque Chypré), but I would not be able to compare them really in terms of smell. Anyway, I own and wear them both. They're not mutually exclusive, but Diaghilev is my favourite of the current 2. Mitsouko wins in terms of legacy. The best smelling Guerlain's at the moment to me are Habit Rouge Extrait, Jicky Extrait, Shalimar Extrait and L'Heure Bleue Extrait. The 2 chyprès (Mitsouko Extrait and Vol de Nuit Extrait) are "just" good / enjoyable enough to keep a spare bottle around, and that's after Mr. Wasser has restored them back in 2017. Roja Parfums, Henry Jacques, the Classics of Guerlain and Di Ser are all I'm interested in nowadays. No need to compare them, just as I wouldn't feel the need to compare Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin and Rolex. They all have their well-deserved place in history. Cheers!

that is not true. Mitsouko costs $375 for 30 ml. it translate to $1250 for 100 ml. Diaghilev costs $1050 for 100 ml. so Diaghilev is cheaper than Mitsouko per ml.

I have a 2021 bottle of Mitsuoko and it’s garbage. It’s but a ghost of what it was. Not only is it weak and severely watered down, but it doesn’t last more than 10mins. You’re delusional if u think Mitsuoko is anywhere near as great as Diaghilev. I don’t know about vintage Mitsuoko. But since we can’t buy the vintage, we have to compare them as they are sold TODAY, and Diaghilev is 1000000 times better. I’m gonna sell my crappy bottle of Mitsuoko. It’s the biggest pile of shit perfume in my collection and I have over 500 bottles of Niche. Many vaulted because they’re rare or discontinued. Yes I’m a serious collector.

I think, if you want to study a fragrance it is Diaghilev, and the finished product is Mitsouko. Diaghilev is like deconstructed Mitsouko in a bottle. I would lean more on the finished product, as I just want to wear it and enjoy the roundedness!!
