I recognized some of these theme songs. I grew up in the '50s and '60s. Back then, at least in my household, we watched what our parents wanted to see. Some of these shows, I never had a chance to watch.

Back in '50's lucky you had an TV, it worked, and you got reception. had to work those "rabbit ears". No such thing as "re-runs". If you didn't watch it when it was broadcast, you were bleep out of luck. No VCRs or other taping means.

Growing up in New Zealand, we didn't have much choice. But, we doubled our channels in '75, with the introduction of TV2 Mystery surrounded, why TV's had dials with up to ten numbers?? Why would you need so many channels?

"You Bet Your Life" was hosted by Groucho Marx. The "You Bet Your Life" theme was based on the song "Hooray for Captain Spaulding," which came from the Marx Brothers' 1928 Broadway show (and 1930 film) "Animal Crackers." 🙂

Brought back memories of my childhood, with one semi-correction I have to offer: The picture accompanying the "Lassie" theme showed the original cast (Tommy Rettig, Jan Clayton, George Cleveland), while the theme music was that used in the episodes with the third cast (Jon Provost, June Lockhart, Hugh Reilly). To the uninitiated, the second cast had Provost, but with Cloris Leachman and Jon Sheppod (sp?) as the parents.
@aspenrebel
@aspenrebel 2 жыл бұрын
Are you correct on all that? Cloris Leachman was on "Lassie"? OMG!! What was about the last thing she did? "Dancing with the Stars", a handful of years ago? "Frau Blucher!" ...... [horses heard in background] "Naaayyyy!! Naaaayyyyy!!".

In 1964 they bought series from America, I remember Lassie and the Lone Ranger in the early yers... and Peyton Place for the grown ups...Oh, and the Fugitive with David Janssen.... but that was about it... No wait, Zorro and Bonanza too...

Story time!!!!! First off, I'm young...keep that in mind for this story to make sense. My Senior year, my band director decided to be the typical goof that he is and, when trying to move through a bunch of students in my band class, he decided to say "make room for daddy". My classmates were HORRIFIED. My band director looked at them blankly and asked them what was the matter. He stated that Make Room for Daddy was a TV show. I said "Z, I remember my mom mentioning that show before." "See!!!! I'm not so crazy after all. Jeez Abby! What am I gonna do when you graduate? You're the only one who knows my references!!!!" At the end of class he actually pulled up one of the episodes on KZbin to show my classmates that neither of us were crazy.

I was born in '57. I nailed all but 3. I probably could've gotten all but Playhouse 90 (never watched it), but it made it much harder that more than half weren't the original theme song but only lame studio musician recreations. A lot of those ones I had to really listen to realize what it actually was supposed to be. And I'll bet that's why a lot of people didn't recognize as many as they would have if it had been the actual authentic song from the show. Every authentic theme I knew in the first 2 or 3 notes. What would be really fun is if someone put together one of these using the jingles from those old commercial we used to see over & over & over. Like all those cigarette commercials.... "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should...." or " Parliament...with the filter that's in...recessed in" or "You can take Salem out of the country BUT....You can't take the country out of Sa-lem".

I was born in Dec. of 1956, but seen a lot of these shows in syndication as a kid. I remembered quite a lot of them, especially American Bandstand, I Love Lucy, Dragnet, The Honeymooners, Donna Reed, Make Room for Daddy, The Mickey Mouse Club, and a few others. Thanks for the memories. (Jan Griffiths).

"Peter Gunn", spent a lot of late nights over recent years watching that show. I think the entire show was filmed indoors on one stage. Seems like it was always nighttime.

I missed Jack Benny of all things. I always associated Benny with Love in Bloom. Still remembered the lyrics to Maverick and Paladin and the intro to Dragnet. My Dad bought our first TV in 1952 so that he could watch the Boston Celtics and Willie Mays. My mom parked me in front of the TV during the day while she cleaned house; I still remember the theme from Edge of Night.

Great! But now which was the BEST show and/or your FAVORITE show? I think "Gunsmoke" was on for 20 years!! "Honeymooners" was ONLY on for 1 season!! "Superman" was actually a pretty good show, production wise. The supporting cast was a bit "comical". I say that MY FAVORITE show is "Perry Mason".
