Hi Steve, what a fun game! Here’s how I did 1. It sounded like something being tortured; did not recognize the sound but have seen the bird (Thailand) 2. The worst sound in the world-pidgies! I truly despise rock pigeons 3. Did not recognize the sound but have seen the bird; coucals are gorgeous 4. Sadly, I didn’t even recognize this call (my dementia is really taking its toll on my memory), nor have I seen one outside of zoos 5. I knew it was a duck or goose but not the specific species 6. I knew it was bill-clattering but not what it was-I used to see them from the train right before passing through Ayutthaya when I made visa runs from BKK to Laos 7. Red-vented bulbuls were everywhere there were shade trees, especially parks 8. The nice, clear ko-el made that one easy…finally! [It’s pronounced like the sound, not like the stuff that’s mined in Appalachia.]

2. I am both surprised and understand at the same time. 4. Aw, sorry to hear that, Mary Rose! Wishing you all the best. It's so cool that you have personal experience with many of these birds! 8. I was using the dictionary pronunciation of [ KOH-uhl ], but yeah, it's kinda smooshed together. Even practicing now I'm not sure how to pronounce it differently. So much out there to learn! Thank you for playing, Mary Rose!

1:40 a little correction! It's Mor, not Kor. Fun videos as usual and I'm glad my country got it's separate video!

My guesses while watching: 1: Parrot, possibly Rose-ringed? (Correct) 2: Cooing sound, I’m guessing some kind of pigeon? (Correct) 3: Sounds like “hoopoopoopoo”. Eurasian Hoopoe? (Wrong) 4: Indian Peafowl (Definitely correct) 5: Sounds like a waterfowl. Possibly Indian Spot-billed Duck (Close) 6: Sarus Crane or some other crane (Wrong) 7: Definitely a songbird, but not sure which (Correct) 8: Nightjar? Owl? Crane? Not sure (None of these)

Wow, your guesses were all either exactly right, or the right size/shape of bird. That's really good for birds from the other side of the world! Thanks for playing, Vernon!

I got 5 correct, I missed the bulbul and the coucal, both amazing birds that I know by sight but not by sound! I always love these videos, they’re such a fun test of my random bird knowledge and I actually come back to them to study fairly often. I have always wanted to know what bird makes the sound that Asian koels make, I hear that sound in media a lot so I was curious who produces it. Thanks for this one Steve!

Awesome! Really good score, and a testament to just how much bird knowledge you have collected over the years. I'm glad this is a helpful resource for you. Thank you for playing!
