I heard (but have not checked) that they used convenes during the Apollo program. They had a lot of leaks at first because when asked if they would suit a large, medium or small, all the astronauts gave the same answer. They changed the descriptions to huge, massive, and enourmous and the problems stopped. I've never seen that card, I've always just taken a look and guessed. If it leaks, try a different size.

Had a catheter once. Couldn't pee after surgery and had to have it inserted. They told me to keep it in for a couple days, those were some of the most unpleasant days I've ever had. Taking it out was also a horrifying experience. 0/10 do not recommend.

No one on the design committee sat down and thought "hmmm, maybe we should design this in such a way that patients can't see the full range of sizes and compare themselves inadvertently"? What a fail :D Why not just make a measuring tape and have a result sheet for the nurses to look up what the numbers mean... it's still gonna be awkward, but you remove the comparison aspect.

In practice, in my experience working in a hospital ward at least, a conveen is only used on those are not indicated to be catheterised but urine incontinence can cause issues such as with a leg wound. If you are aware that a nurse is fitting a conveen on you, you should be going to the toilet yourself or be given a urine bottle to void. unless I guess if you are quadraplegic or something, in which case you have something else entirely to worry about...

These things come in handy(not the girth device most are average anyway) when the patient has prostate hyperthopy. Catheter literrally cant get in so you just put "piss condoms" on the patient

I've heard them mainly called Texas catheters and also external or condom catheters, but conveen is new to me.

Conveen is a brand name. At my workplace we also call them uritip after another brand. But external catheter or condom catheter are the generic terms.

Fun fact we sometimes use those too, little disposable paper ones with different colours on. You match up the colour that the end of the tape goes to with the colour of the conveen packet and that's the size you need
