Guest Performance: "The President's Own" Marine Band

This concert is part of the 2023 U.S. Marine Band Concert Tour and is sponsored by Dordt University Department of Music.
The Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Known as “The President’s Own” since the days of Thomas Jefferson, the Marine Band’s primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
In the style of the band’s 17th Director John Philip Sousa, who initiated the concert tour tradition in 1891, Marine Band Director Col. Jason K. Fettig has chosen a diverse mix of programs, from traditional band repertoire and marches to instrumental solos.

Exceptional performances as always. One (and only one) nit, who is directing the video shots?....The camera hardly EVER seems to focus on the musical section featuring the melody (on a timely basis). Many lost moments of inspired coordination.

The Marine Band is absolutely incredible. Fast, clean and musically. As a German percussionist I played in American concert bands since 1981 when it was Blue Lake In Bavaria to now being the timpanist of the Green Bay City Band. I consider us quite good (after about 5, 6 performances each summer), but this group? I am looking forward to seeing you in Appleton and Madison.

I traveled from DC to see the concert in Madison WI. The bass player is my son. I am damn proud!
