I had no idea how sweet and scherzando the prelude could be. And played at a perfect pace where you can hear all the voices without struggling. I hear too many musicians trying to play this triplet of pieces too fast (it's not a frigging toccata! stop showing off), whereas for me Gugnin gets it spot on.

Yes I like to hear the music rather than see how fast someone can play it….the beauty of the cords…I like to slow it down to savor the beauty and elegance. Nothing better than Rach & Bach!!!!

I could not agree more: it suffices to close ones eyes, thus evading the showmanship (inherent also to this performance) so much abhorred by Rachmaninov, and lo, once of a sudden one sees comely ladies and handsome gentlemen in baroque costumes dancing gracefully and conveniently to Bach´s immortal music . . .

I favor Gugin's prelude performance . The auditorium acoustics have the advantage. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ_RiYmBoclrj6s No swaying each other on this one! Trifonov has a justifiable higher stature and is my favorite pianist.. @@thepianocornertpc

I so enjoy this piece played so well. I’m still working on it.

P.S.: Admittedly, composers are rarely (if ever at all) the best interpreters of their own works and Rachmaninov´s piano adaptation of the Prelude, Gavotte & Gigue from Bach´s Violin Partita No. 3 is no exception (the only available recording of the composer engenders a rather hasty, almost awkward impression): therefore I am confident that the great SWR would have whole-heartedly approved of this delicate interpretation . . . Moreover, I could imagine each additional embellishment (there are only very few in this recording) as a fond and spontaneous hand-kiss from each gentleman to his lady dance-partner . . .

The gigue is so dance-like and lively!

Мне показалась акустика очень удачной. В технике игры я мало что понимаю, но удовольствие получил. Мягкая какая-то манера, без сильного нажима.

@@GugaZavR I'll need it. I love Rachmaninoff (and Bach), but he makes one work hard - which is a good thing! :)

I've mastered SIMPLE pieces to the point that they're great fun and generate an inner joy to play,. When the mechanics and memory are no longer running interference, you can control can enjoy the ecstasy along with the athletic endeavor of playing . This guy visibly experiences this. Makes you want to practice so you can get high on music.

I only know of the edition of MELODIYA (which is also the name of a russian music record label, both LP and CD) which I happened to find in a hidden music store near St. Lazare in Paris some 25 years ago ... However, considering the increasing popularity of this adaptation, I´m confident that nowadays, it should be available also from modern music score publishers, probably even as PDF-download: Google is your friend here!
