I'd love to see a video on how you cross streets, or anything. I'm interested in any aspect of how you negotiate and manage your life. I think this would really help sighted people, like myself, to have a better understanding of what your needs. When I see a blind person coming down the street, I just give them a wide berth so that I'm not in their way, but maybe I could be more helpful than evasive. Most of us just don't want to make someone feel as though we think they are helpless, so I think we err on the side of "under-doing" rather than "over-doing."

Wow! We believe the exact same thing - spirits, reincarnation, & Karma. My husband has seizures. We were sold (not by your school.... We live in Coast Georgia USA) a beautiful German Shepherd who was supposed to be a service dog for my husband, but we found out she was not trained. Great ending: Our sweet German Shepherd is the best girl ever!!! She learned our & our daughter's routines. She lays beside my hubby before he has a seizure, signaling us!! Whenever one of us is depressed or sad, she will either lay beside that family member (4 of us me, hubby 2 teenage daughters) comforting them. Even if the door is closed to whomever's room, she will lay against that door (she pushes it open, on purpose, with her butt😄😃😂) She's been a family member for 4 years now & she's perfect. I shared you channel on my FACEBOOK & Twitter!! You are wonderful!! Much love from us!! Jen🎀

Find it interesting your story with how you met Gypsy was very similar to how my dad met Junior which was his work dog but by work I mean he was a cattle dog. He would help my dad herd cattle and that kind of thing. When my dad first went to go look at these puppies the guy fed them so they would all come out so my dad could look at them and Junior refused to go eat instead he sat by my dad and obviously wanted to be with my dad and that was the best decision that was ever made I mean he was my dad's best friend. Dogs know best.

I myself am legally blind, my husband was totally blind and we both went to Leader Dogs, they don't pre-match you, your trainer takes you out and pretends to be the dog and they watch to see your gait, your personality, how you handle situations (SQUIRRREL!) lol and then after a couple days of that and lectures on how to handle the dog guide, care and feeding etc. then they have you wait in your room and bring the dog into meet you for the first time. My dog Chloe and I bonded right away. Allen told me it took a day for him and his first dog Shadow but Abbey was his bestie by that night after he fed her for the first time.

Very cool Molly. It's Ryan the blind kid who you replied to on the tattoo video. We have so much in common as far as how we are independent. We should share each others ways of being independent and become friends! I don't have a guide dog and just prefer to use my cane, but guide dogs are awesome! How do you record videos by yourself? Do you know what Jaws commands to use to look at comments without having to revisit every video? I currently have to have people help me with these things, and would love to do it by myself!

Hi Molly, I loved this video. I have just started doing some research on Guide Dog schools because I am very interested in having a Seeing Eye Dog. Can you tell me more about Mira in Quebec? Is the "person" training done in English or French?
@MollyBurkeOfficial9 жыл бұрын
+Diane Bradford Congrats, that's so exciting! What a big moe forward for your life. :) If you speak English, they will put an English speaking trainer with you. All of the dogs commands are in French, which they will help you learn. :) I HIGHLY recommend this school. I've done research on many schools and have a list of backups if for some reason I could not go to Mira, but honestly, non of them even come close to the Mira training standards and breeding + followup.
@dianebradford20569 жыл бұрын
+Molly Burke Thanks for your reply. I have started the application process. My eye doctor actually took the time to write a letter of recommendation with the eye report! My parents, on the other hand, are not over thrilled- but that's another story. I am wondering, do you ever do anything without Gallop? I still have some sight in my right eye and am comfortable doing some things because I go with my mom. For example, to go get groceries, going to church, clothing shopping. Would it be ok to do some things with my Guide Dog? Thanks :)
@hannahbailey17718 жыл бұрын
+Diane Bradford I don't mean to hijack the post but since Molly hasn't responded yet I thought you wouldn't mind if I commented. I don't have much experience with specifically guide dogs but with all service dogs you don't have to use them all the time. We often use the term 'service people' to define people who can step in and help us like our service dogs, often letting us leave the dog at home. Sorry if this didn't make any sense but long story short is yes, you can do some (or many) things without your service dog.

Hi Molly, my name is Emily. How does guides dog alert you to something like a low tree branch?
@jessicawatson73606 жыл бұрын
Emily Wilson if they can go around it safely they do, if not then they stop before it so you can find it or go to the curb to go around it depending on the road and if it’s safe you can off the curb to get around it or drop the handle till you’ve gone past. Hope that makes sense, I’m from UK so, there may be differences.
