Nice , and you have just scratched the surface. I just got back from an awesome trip to the keys for tarpon and before we started I asked the guide what was the water temperature going to be ,what phase was the moon in . What was the tide Hi , low , slack , what the atmospheric pressure was hi pressure, low pressure , if we had to wear skiff slippers so we wouldn’t mar the boat finish or scare the fish . He said he’d promise not to use any of those reasons if we didn’t catch a tarpon and that he had way better one then those anyway . I liked him right away. And guess what , he wasn’t from Florida . Thanks for sharing and stay Hugh

We did alaska for my dad's 70th, but made sure to only do 2 days of salmon fishing, the other 2 days of guiding were for Dolly's in the upper tributaries and for super chunky rainbows in the main river. It was really nice to actually do some fly fishing instead of just salmon fishing up there.

Maybe, but if I’m hiring a guide to go fly fishing the spinning rod is not an option.
@ferrulewax8 ай бұрын
@@HugeFlyFisherman That's fair. I think the big reason that it's more common for saltwater guides to have spinning gear is due to the higher skill floor needed for saltwater sight fishing. A trout guide can catch fish as long as his client can get a bobber and flies off the edge of the boat. An islamorada bonefish guide? not so much. We all know how much people like to lie about their experience level. Fly-fishing for 30 years? More like fly-fished once thirty years ago 🤣
