Excellent guided practice. It was helpful to follow the sequential structure. Good job, Joseph. Just the right amount of instruction to silence ratio.

The ones that talk about breathing do not work for me because I personally can only reach these relaxed states when I completely FORGET about my breathing. When I think about my breathing I either breathe too much or not enough or start the hyperventilating thing where I yawn a bunch of times. He keeps talking about breathing naturally and how it's a natural function but yet he keeps reminding the listener about his or her breathing. So frustrating. I must completely forget my breathing to go into these deep states.
@nobodyspecial28356 жыл бұрын
Please keep trying. Finding your natural rhythm is tough. It took me a while. I wanted to force it. I eventually learned to relieve myself from expectations and kinda fell into just experiencing my breath. Not so much focus, just feel the sensations. Good luck.
@chrisw73472 жыл бұрын
It's not about thinking about your breathing, it's just being present with it. This is mindfulness-- to see what is available in this moment, with openness, without resistance, without need, with clarity. If you are sitting, and you hear the instructor tell you to notice the in breath, and you get frustrated, you are actually lost in thought. Observe the frustration itself clearly, watch it, don't push it away, don't hold on to it, just observe, and return to the anchor of the breath.

I wonder if anyone can answer a question relating to the interpretation of Buddha's 3rd instruction: why not experience both the whole body of the breath AND the breath throughout the whole body?
@mihaisirbflaviu79628 жыл бұрын
im not sure if you already thought of this but i think it reffers to putting your attention on both the body sensations and the breath itself, feeling like if the body and the breath are the same system, just that the breath is a source of major movement in the very system. I've heard this explination in one of joseph conferences about mindfulness ("what is and what it's not mindfulness"). Sorry for my english.
