Guiding Light (1981) - Closing Theme

Here’s the semi-clean version of the disco closing theme used on Guiding Light from 1981 until 1983. I put every clean piece I could find and added them together to create a full voiceover-free version of this closing theme.

I have so many thoughts about this, but the main one is that this is the first time in over 38 years that I ever heard this theme so clear and in its entirety. I first remembered this theme from after my graduation from high school in 1981, but thanks to you and all of your endless talents, I can finally hear this as it should be heard.... Thanks Edwyn.

I just listened to this in my car on its great sound system and I felt like I was flying...it was able to reveal where the edits were but who cares! It's just spectacular!

I love this theme for whatever reason as it had a catchy ring to it just like most disco music and themes had in this era. It did a nice job of blending the natural soap theme with a fun disco flavor to it. When it was out it probably was taken for granted, but it's great listen 40 years later. I think the 1983 theme was their best, but this one was easily their 2nd best to me.

I was obsessed with this particular GL theme as a teenager, and it is by far my favorite...mainly I think because it reminds me of my youth. I used to record it every day on videotape just hoping to catch an extended version of the closing theme. Thank you for the meticulous editing! It makes me feel like a fresh-faced kid again! ;-)

. . . well, this closing theme is much more tolerable than its counterpart opening theme LOL. Actually this closing theme has surprisingly /grown on me/ even though I do think it's the most "game showy" of any of GL's themes for 1952-2009.

I really appreciate your work on this Edwyn! Removing VOs without degrading quality is no easy task. It’s a shame that one segment is of lower fidelity than the rest, otherwise this would be perfect! Hopefully a better source can be found to make this right.

@@EdwynNSanchez Yep I had the same experience with another theme. I used multiple sources, lots of splicing and a few techniques that I can’t quite remember (this was a few years ago) to remove the rest.

This was the infamous disco-theme that replaced the soft, tranquil and lush Ritournelle in late 1981. I hated this theme!! Nowwwww . . . not so much.

@@donmccullen1973 Well, to be fair Ritournelle is a gold standard for classic soap opera themes. This one may be good on its own but not when measured against the best! I really think that incorporating Ritournelle with disco would have been been more respectful to that theme and it’s composer.
