The others have had time to process it. Mindy's just learning about it. Besides, everyone faces grief in different ways. Billy and Vanessa are the kind who face things head on and try to be strong and practical. They sublimate their pain by taking care of the realities. You need people like that to handle things like funeral arrangements and being there for others at such a terrible time. Like in this scene.
