I can't believe that Guiding Light is not on TV anymore I miss that show I Remember back in the late 80" s to early 90" s GUIDING LIGHT Writing was off the chain . The Light may be out but the after glow will live on forever in our hearts. Remember that Guiding Light was on radio first in 1937 then made the Transition to TV in 1952 then went off the air September of 2009 ?

Back in the early 70's when I was in 7th grade i broke both my elbows. As a result I was stuck at home watching one channel on tv (we only had 5). Each afternoon I was stuck watching Beth, Phil and Rick. I actually started getting into the show. Years later I was surprised that Riva was still on the show and still pining for Josh. It was like time stood still. Now, to my surprise the show is being canceled and I had to watch. Seeing all those faces from my past, it is like seeing family again.

My favorite soap ever. There was no greater villian in day time than Roger Thorpe back in the day (him and JR Ewing may have been the two greatest villians ever). I loved the famlies and the characters. I always loved Frank Cooper on the show.

Alan Spaulding, Sheila, James Stenbeck, Helena Cassadine, Stefano Dimera, Orpheus, Kristin Dimera...More than a few went way over the top into Super villain mustache twirling shenanigans like World Domination, but if you don't aim high why bother? A select few actors were amazing enough to give many layers not conveyed by the script and we were getting 3 dimensional multi layered characters that were so powerfully acted that we not only understood some of their motivations, one couldn't help but root for them too, while loving the characters evolve into anti heroes who bent the rules, take responsibility but realize there's a point where you can reclaim the good and bad parts which made us wonder what they would do next. I love how straight up villains have evolved before our eyes but without giving up their edge and no longer apologizing but being a better person and learning from the past without staying in poverty of it and not allowing anyone to define them for their past 'sins'. Roger Thorpe was one of the best examples of coming back changed but still have full use of their arsenal of tricks if you get on their wrong side.

I miss GL too. If things could have been done differently, I could picture GL ending with a cliff-hanger or two. Big cliff-hanger I have in mind... Tony, Ross, and Maureen being alive and well the entire time... and being held captive. Opening the door to GL returning at a later date... that, and other stories being addressed. Another story I see being addressed... 2 members from the Bauer family quietly passing away... Mike and Meta. AMC & OLTL ended with cliff-hangers. It's a thought.

been watching this show since i was a kid.after this show was axed i thought hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe i could revive it but when alan died,MY ALL TIME FAVORITE CHARACTER ON TV PERIOD,i thought this show is truly dead.i still miss it. :(

Roger Thorpe made the show. When Michael Zaslow died, so did the show. You would walk down the street in the 70's or the late 80's and you would hear people talk about Roger Thorpe like JR. Ewing on the street. I'll never forget being a kid on July 4th 1976.

CBS should just drop the talk and game shows that have replaced our CBS soap opera's and bring them back!! I miss watching this show!

It seemed like Roger Thorpe always had great lines, and even his "down" scenes seem to have more of a purpose than filling time. The plot always went forward when he was on the screen while other characters just seemed to dwell there unless they were being used by Roger. When he came back from the dead in the 70's to haunt his ex and get his daughter, that was well ahead of its time, copied by others repeatedly, not to mention very thrilling even as a kid to view.

@WIZZINGSHIRE I would have loved for Mel to have found someone new who tried Online Dating. Leah should have gone away to School. Jeffrey came back to town and realized that it would always be Josh and Reva, so he gives his blessing for them to go away but he keeps Colin and moves back to Washington. Jason, Kevin, and Clarissa come to visit and Christina gets a Scholarship to Study Medicine. Vicky, Nick, Alan Michael and Amanda come back for a visit and Fletcher and Alex marry.

@laminage would have been nice to have seen ALL of the spauldings at alans goodbye.this ending simply proved why the writing staff killed GL.it was horrible.i would love to somehow ressurect it but without my man alan, its just not GL.and that crappy music!!!!! HATED IT!!! and the scenes around town, bad.it looked like a little hick town.studio scenes were much better even though they got cheap with those also.you ever compare the sets from the 80's and 90's to what they were in the last few years
