Ellen seemed like she hadn't watched clips of the show in awhile, which if she had, might have aided her memory. Rachel was lovely. Mark Faulkner I think it actually made sense that she was obsessed with Hart. She never had anyone to love her as a child and when she finally found someone who loved her she would do anything to hold on to that love. What didn’t make sense was Hart falling in love with Cassie overnight. There was never really an explanation for him leaving Dinah. I felt so sorry for Dinah Ross and Vanessa never loved her unconditionally the way a parent should especially since they had so much to make up for. Vanessa was more of a mother to Mindy than Dinah. Also, I’m so proud of Rachel and all the work for just goodness she’s done over the years. I hope her time on GL influenced that. @@der22672 I've seen episodes with Mark Hulswit as Ed and Lenore Kasdorf as Rita - it's such a compelling story. I mean the shows in the 70's, all of them, were such compelling human psyche on display. I feel when Rachel Miner, who is wise beyond her years talked about how the trends began to change, the perfect production model, where heart to hearts took an aside to what I would classify as overt sexuality and a bunch of bitch slapping, she hit the nail on the head. Of course she had a real great teacher in her father the late Peter Miner.

Erik Andrus I couldn't agree more Erik. GL was just another animal in the late '70s to the early to mid '80s. Not just Ed and Rita, but so many wonderful complex characters from those years. Interesting story about Guiding light & my life. I remember GL from my earliest days. Seemed like every lady in my family watched the stories. My sister started watching them at an early age. Oddly enough I hated them back when I was around ten years old. My sister & I would fight over the television till she would call mom at work. Mom would let my sister have it till GL went off then I could have it. So I kinda had to watch even though I didn't really want to. One day my sister wasn't home & I had the TV at an earlier time than I was used to having it. I found myself sneaking & watching GL on my own. Hell, I wanted to see what was going to happen next & had became adducted. Once it sunk into my own head that I too enjoyed the show then my whole world changed. I remember getting nervous that someone would learn of me watching it, or fear what I would tell people once the cat was out of the bag, lol. I'm very proud these days to tell everyone how I loved the show & how I became such a fan. When the show came to an end it broke my heart & I still miss it dearly. I had grown up with all of you & you felt like a part of my family. Life wasn't so lonely with GL in my life. I really loved everyone & I still do. There isn't much in my life that I wouldn't trade to get GL back in my life the way it was back then with all of you. I hope that each of your lives are going good & filled with loved ones that keep you all happy. I wish that there was a place where folks like me who grew up loving the show could go & watch all of the episodes in high quality. I miss you all & hope to see you on here again sometime soon.

How about doing some more streams with All My Children and One Life To Live stars? Your last few actually made me cry. It was like catching up with family you hadn’t seen in a very long time. Please, some of us really need it in a time like this🙏🙏

OMG thanks Allen I remember this story line I was so bumped when the killed Maureen. I was in 4th grade and turned the TV on ASAP when I got home to see what happed after the accident. Ellen is a great actress I would love to see her on another show. She would be great in Handmaiden tales.

are you going to have a secret storm reunion.?
@danielbryan97547 ай бұрын
I would love to see a reunion of The Secret Storm cast as well--Stephanie Braxton who played Laurie Stevens Reddin and other residents of Woodbridge would be such a tremendous joy to see. The Secret Storm was my absolute favorite soap of all time!!! I still mourn the loss of it to this day.

Was Maureen Fired or did she Quit?
@TheLocherRoom8 ай бұрын
She was let go dictated by the storyline they wanted to tell killing her character off. A HUGE mistake.

Alan, I would love to see you do an episode with Lenore Kasdorf who was Rita Stapleton Bauer and also her sister Eve (Janet Grey), Marsha Clark who played Hilary Bauer and Denise Pence as Katie Parker. You could title it The Nurses of Cedars Hospital. I would also love to see Lenore Kasdorf and Mart Hulswit talking about the Rita and Ed love story, and also Maureen Garrett who played Holly. Guiding Light fans would love this!!!! Thank you for all you do, Alan!!!!!!! YOU ARE OUR HERO!!!!!!

The real reason Ellen Parker was let go was because they wanted to free up the budget for Justin Deas to join the show (who was demanding a big payday). That says it all about where soaps went wrong... producers like Jill Farren Phelps valued the male contribution so much more than the women who are the true essence of this genre. Men dominated primetime and daytime soaps were the only place for women to be three dimensional characters, but Jill Farren Phelps wanted to destroy that. It's not my place to say if she hates her own sex, but she is the most hated soap producer of all time for a very good reason.

Personally, I hated Buzz's character and didnt care about the storyline. They never gave Peter Simon or Ellen Parker anything meaty until they decided to kill off Maureen which was too bad.

I love Beth Chamberlain but Judi was always Beth to me. I skipped school to watch her and Lujack when Lujack died and they told her he was dead and she didnt beleive it. I was like 10. People are always like "Beth and Philip " but nothing ever matched the magic of Beth and LuJack for me.
