Who can forget Maureen smashing Bert's teacup after reading the letter... that symbolised the smashing of the Bauer family and was the most symbolic moment in the show's history... way more iconic for me than Reva in the fountain because it tied in to the actual heritage of the show and Reva was an outsider.

That was such a big part of the downfall in those last few years. That show was done so wrong the last few years. I enjoyed this one immensely. Maeve is very humorous and offered good insights into her fellow actors' working styles. Tina seemed like a friend that everyone would want to have off camera. Ellen seemed like she hadn't watched clips of the show in awhile, which if she had, might have aided her memory. Rachel was lovely. The only way this one would have been better would have been if Peter Simon had been included since we do need his perspective on the storyline involving Maureen's death.

@@markfaulkner5626 She had the perfect Gen X thing down...and she was perfect combo of good/bad before they made her batshit crazy over Hart/Cassie. I think they were looking for an easy fix to the loss of Watros' Annie, but they destroyed the character of Dinah in the process.

Mark Faulkner I think it actually made sense that she was obsessed with Hart. She never had anyone to love her as a child and when she finally found someone who loved her she would do anything to hold on to that love. What didn’t make sense was Hart falling in love with Cassie overnight. There was never really an explanation for him leaving Dinah. I felt so sorry for Dinah Ross and Vanessa never loved her unconditionally the way a parent should especially since they had so much to make up for. Vanessa was more of a mother to Mindy than Dinah. Haha I’m really getting deeply involved here.

Just adding Mo was the mom I wanted as a teenager. After her death, it took a long time to come back to GL. I never forgave Ed. I escaped into the Coopers for a while, but the Coopers didn’t have a Mo. Mo found good even in Roger, where even Bert couldn’t find it. Also, I’m so proud of Rachel and all the work for just goodness she’s done over the years. I hope her time on GL influenced that. I miss them all, I guess, but Mo, when she died, 30 years later, I’m still traumatized. It’s silly. I’m turning 50 in a month and if I were to ever meet Ellen Parker, I’d still wish for a hug from Mo.

@@der22672 I've seen episodes with Mark Hulswit as Ed and Lenore Kasdorf as Rita - it's such a compelling story. I mean the shows in the 70's, all of them, were such compelling human psyche on display. I feel when Rachel Miner, who is wise beyond her years talked about how the trends began to change, the perfect production model, where heart to hearts took an aside to what I would classify as overt sexuality and a bunch of bitch slapping, she hit the nail on the head. Of course she had a real great teacher in her father the late Peter Miner.

Erik Andrus I couldn't agree more Erik. GL was just another animal in the late '70s to the early to mid '80s. Not just Ed and Rita, but so many wonderful complex characters from those years. But then came the transition and so many of those wonderful characters were let go so basically more Lewis's could move to Springfield. It took me several years but I slowly started to like the Lewis clan. Josh and Trish were already on.

The producers are fools at times because they dont really respect the actors, to them they just replaceable and the fans dont matter, but to the fans their family and friends and should be treated with more respect. The fans loved Maureen and that shouldn't have went down like that producers!!!!! Glad to know what really happen.

Why didn’t they send Maureen to Fletcher instead of killing her off. Ed was a weak and pathetic character. The writers completely gave him a get out of jail card. No one blamed him for the affair and Maureens death.

I agree!!!! Truly a wonderful gesture. If someone can respect and appreciate our love for the soaps and the soap actors and characters in such a special way, they demonstrates that they totally get us and love us!!! You no doubt made a perfect choice to marry someone who is so sensitive to your love for these special people in our lives. Truly one of the best stories I have heard in a long time. Thank you for sharing this awesome it!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Interesting story about Guiding light & my life. I remember GL from my earliest days. Seemed like every lady in my family watched the stories. My sister started watching them at an early age. Oddly enough I hated them back when I was around ten years old. My sister & I would fight over the television till she would call mom at work. Mom would let my sister have it till GL went off then I could have it. So I kinda had to watch even though I didn't really want to. One day my sister wasn't home & I had the TV at an earlier time than I was used to having it. I found myself sneaking & watching GL on my own. Hell, I wanted to see what was going to happen next & had became adducted. Once it sunk into my own head that I too enjoyed the show then my whole world changed. I remember getting nervous that someone would learn of me watching it, or fear what I would tell people once the cat was out of the bag, lol. I'm very proud these days to tell everyone how I loved the show & how I became such a fan. When the show came to an end it broke my heart & I still miss it dearly. I had grown up with all of you & you felt like a part of my family. Life wasn't so lonely with GL in my life. I really loved everyone & I still do. There isn't much in my life that I wouldn't trade to get GL back in my life the way it was back then with all of you. I hope that each of your lives are going good & filled with loved ones that keep you all happy. I wish that there was a place where folks like me who grew up loving the show could go & watch all of the episodes in high quality. I miss you all & hope to see you on here again sometime soon.

Guiding Light fans would love this!!!! Thank you for all you do, Alan!!!!!!! YOU ARE OUR HERO!!!!!!

The real reason Ellen Parker was let go was because they wanted to free up the budget for Justin Deas to join the show (who was demanding a big payday). That says it all about where soaps went wrong... producers like Jill Farren Phelps valued the male contribution so much more than the women who are the true essence of this genre. Men dominated primetime and daytime soaps were the only place for women to be three dimensional characters, but Jill Farren Phelps wanted to destroy that. It's not my place to say if she hates her own sex, but she is the most hated soap producer of all time for a very good reason.
