You're an extremely lucky man! I'm in the market for an F-512 right now, which is probably why your video popped up on my feed. Guilds of that vintage often need a neck reset like you mentioned. And dry damage from insufficient humidification is also something a lot of people don't notice when they post their instrument for sale. There can be tiny cracks in the sides that they never saw, or the bridge lifts, and the top warps. I kept running up against this, and have finally decided that since I'm buying online, and cannot examine the guitar personally, I'm going to buy a brand new one. The word is that the new Guild factory in California is making some really great guitars again. They are very expensive, so I'm going to have to put some money away and take my time with the purchase. Seeing one from the 70's in that immaculate condition literally brings a tear to my eye, since I've had such a time finding one. I'm sure I'll be happy with a brand new one, but boy oh boy, it would be like Christmas if I ever found a vintage one as lovely as yours! Cheers!

I have a 1979 Guild F212XL NT (Mahogany). Had it for over 30 years. I installed K&K Pure Western Mini & run it through a Zoom A3 preamp. Sounds fantastic. Guild makes the best 12 string acoustic guitars.

Happy to see and hear your guitar and your positive comments. I just ordered a new (California made) F512E. It is maple back and sides with sunburst spruce top, can't wait to receive it. Thanks

As far as pickups go, I like the idea of having a pre-amped mic. Fishman has a kit that is both an under saddle pezio (spell), combined with a pre-amped mic. It can be played on all of either one or the other; or a combination of both. Or maybe an ofline mic! This sounds like the best of all worlds to me!!

I bought an LR Baggs Anthem on my Yamaha 12 string... I think it is THE Best pickup made. Used to have a Fishman, and though I felt it was excellent, I somehow felt it was lacking something. Bit the bullet and got the Anthem, and that did it for me! I will now get the Anthem moved over to mr Guild F512...... 😸

You need LR Baggs Anthem. The best way to amplify any acoustic guitar. You will get the same sound like in the room, only amplified. It is also installed in every new Guild f512

Maestro Ralph Towner played a Guild F212..and furthe into his career he had two big Jumbo Guild guitars one with a Florentine cutaway..I don't recall the model numbers. He is a jazz player and he said to being a jazz guitarist playing a classical instrument and then to have playing a 12 string is unheard of due to the care of nail treatment. Thank you for sharing your information keep up the good work.

I recommend LR Baggs Anthem electronics. And would have it installed by a professional luthier or at the very least a place where the staff are used to doing this regularly. Sweetwater does this and also provides PLEK service.

Awesome review I just bought the Chinese version of this guitar second hand....in amazing condition but it needs a neck reset so here is hoping that goes well. The one I bought F-512 is also rosewood back n sides 2017 model.

Take care of that guitar Matt, they need to be maintained. Speaking of aussie connections, my first acoustic was a Maton 12 string, still alive and well after all these years. cheers

I will be taking very good care of the Guild:) I'm a fan of Maton guitars - i actually came very close to buying a Maton Messiah 12 string prior to the Guild... it was a lovely instrument. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Cheers Matt.

My oh my, Matt, that's a beauty. Congratulations. With this and your Strat 12 you're becoming quite a 12 string enviable guy. It's great that you can put it in standard tuning as most older 12's I've encountered do better tuned down. My only 12 is a Moridaira made Fender F-series from 1974. I've found it sounds and plays better tuned down (keep it in D). Of course, you're dealing with a Westerly made Guild, not a Japanese '70's guitar. Sorry, can't help with the pickup selection is all I have is an old DeArmond sound hole (like the one in the Bowie photo, It's huge and you had to really loosen all the strings to install it. Much fun with a 12.) and a Dean Markley ProMag. She sounds beautiful. Prior to the advent of electronic tuners, 12 string tuning was maddening. And thanks for the "Long Long Long" chords. I was just trying to play that and had forgotten them. John
@TONEonline6 жыл бұрын
Hey John thanks again for those lovely words... I absolutely love the Guild - I didn't want to sound too gushing in my video but it is a very special guitar. The full truth behind that guitar is that my aunt on my dad's side died recently and left me a small inheritance. As my dad died 18 months ago that is now the end of that generation of his family - so I thought I'd buy a lovely guitar that I would remember his family with every time I picked it up. BTW I've played a few Fender acoustic 12's and like them - does yours have a bolt on neck? Funny also you talk about tuning a 12 string before electric tuners - I was just watching a video that was talking about how impressive The Byrds were live. McGuinn was always in tune! They were talking about how he would be backstage with a tuning fork meticulously tuning his Ricky prior to performing. And Long Long Long is one of my fave Beatles songs:) Cheers Matt.
@jltrem6 жыл бұрын
Congratulations again, it's a beautiful guitar. My 12 isn't a bolt neck, it's part of the Seventies F-Series which was made for Fender by the same Japanese company that makes Morris guitars. Yes, prior to electronic tuners I spent more time tuning it than playing it. (As an Aussie, I'm sure you're familiar with recordings by The Seekers. Since the advent of precise electronic tuners I've noticed out of tune 12 strings in some of their and other '60's bands recordings.) Condolences on the loss of your dad and your aunt. My dad passed in 2009 and I have his favored instrument to remember him by. Unfortunately,...it's an accordion. best, John
@TONEonline6 жыл бұрын
jltrem haha made my laughing the accordion:) I certain do know The Seekers Athol Guy was a neighbour for many years when I was growing up... some tuning issues on old recordings with 12 strings doesn’t surprise me. Sounds like you have a very sweet old Fender 12. Best Matt

Wow, that is a pukka ‘70s Guild for sure! Sounds big & rich, even via KZbin. Lucky man (which, come to think of it, would make a very suitable cover tune when playing gigs with this beauty.…you could handle the synth solo with a Taurus foot pedal unit). :-)

Hey Gerry - it's Long Long Long the George Harrison song from The White Album. This video is a little old now - I actually went for a Fishman Matrix Infinity to use with my Fishman Aura Spectrum pre... I'm super happy with the sound. I'll probably do a video on it soon. I do love the Anthem pickup too - I have one in a Hummingbird and it's awesome. Thanks for watching! Matt.
