I’ve had an M-120 from a number of years now but after hearing this I’m definitely thinking of getting an M-20.

Yes the M-20 is a beautiful looking and sounding instrument and worth the investment.

According to current Guild CS, the USA made M20 is actually braced a bit differently. Ren Furguson who was the master luthier that helped Gibson relaunch their acoustic line in the early 1990s and oversaw opening of the Gibson Montana acoustic plant in Bozeman was hired by Guild to reamp the lineup years ago when they launched these, the braces are a bit taller in the M20 and I believe scalloped. The import M120 on the other hand is the classic / traditional M20 design from the 60s, with the exception of that thick polyurethane finish. I guess Guild added that gloss finish to help distinguish the import model from the USA built model, regardless of why, those thick finishes may protect the guitar better from dings, but they sure do diminish the tone a bit... The best of both worlds would be the traditional bracing/voicing in a Satin finish, I don't care where in the world they build it... Also, I own an M120 and can say its a really great guitar, except for that finish.

This is a mistake that's committed quite frequently on KZbin. People such as myself want to hear what each instrument sounds like (the tone) and it's difficult to do when two guitars are playing simultaneously.

Good point, we can play each instrument by itself.

@@terrycartermusicstoreIt’s pretty cool to hear them together too.

I bought a m120 as a backup guitar while my Martin was in the shop. now my martin is never getting played. I love the guild! wondering if I should maybe buy the m20 now and sell the m120.

Another big difference they have missed is the string spacing at the bridge. The M-20 is much more generous and so better for most fingerpickers. I don't get why reviews and spec lists only cite nut width. Spacing at the other end is far more important IMO!

Who are these guys, guessing Terry Carter and ? I’ve listened to this so many times, it floors me every time, Someday I’ll buy an m20 to claw and scratch at, I’ll never sound close to this,

Yes, Terry Carter and Chris Oliver! Lots of practice on both their ends haha
