Edit: Situation update, due to checking 3-4 proton/wine prefixes it appeared to be running and it does work, but only once. I figure some files get changed around while it runs the first time that prevents it from running a second time. I bring news, I've had the exact same problem but I found a work-around. This works as of 29 Sep 2024 on my machine, your mileage may vary and you may need to tinker with wine versions. I noticed that blishhud stars but imemdiately closes; if you run it standalone it keeps running but it doesn't attach to the GW2 instance if you start it separately, so I started thinking; what if i run the bat without steam. I installed heroic games launcher, added a game, gave it a name, set the executable path to the bat file and wine-ge-8-26-x86_64 wine version and it runs. Note, I don't need to force gw2 to stay always on the bottom on the windows rules, you can instead run gw2 in windowed mode, but the overlay will cover any other program too.

@@TheLinuxITGuy Unfortunately it appears the fix only works once per wine/proton prefix. I'll keep looking.

@@yo_ches Update to the update. Yes, 2 days ago I managed to find something. Added BlishHUD as a non-steam game, has to run in Proton 8.0. It does open BlishHUD but it stays in the taskbar. Right click on the icon > Open Settings Folder, navigate all the way back to Z:/, then navigate through your linux file system to find where Gw2.exe is in the Steam library and open it. It's stupid but it works and so far has worked about 6 times.

After initially failing I was able to make it work now. I guess it was because Proton GE versions above 9.11 are broken due to some legacy mono calls. I have to fix some transparency stuff but the core stuff is working

You seen to refer to a KDE. I use Mint as my daily driver and you seem pretty familiar to it, too. Is there a similar way to make GW2 with BlishHUD work under Mint/Cinnamon? (Guildwars and many other games and apps run fine)

Unfortunately this only works with KDE.

Ok I retraced my steps with your guide. The launch option is just like yours 60 to 30 change as well running GE-Proton9-1 I see the blush hud script pop up I press play on GW2 it launches no blish hud….

Make sure your Window settings are correct

I am using a steam deck and followed the guide step by step. The bat window opens with guild wars and closes after the 30 seconds, but Blish Hud doesn't start. I check the window settings multiple times, and checked the launch options as well, it is identical to your settings and to the guide. (I am using provider portal and the 30 sec change). I restarted the steam deck, checked the directory, and the folder came for Blishhud is identical to yours. I am trying multiple hours now and can't find what I am doing wrong.

I'm running Pop_Os! with Ubuntu Kernel 24.04, this worked somewhat, but the screen is completely black. You can interact with the game normally, but can't see anything. The only thing that shows up is the BlishHUD tray at the top of the game screen. I'm afraid this has something to do with the Compositor step of the setup, which I didn't find in my system (note that I am new to Linux, having switched from Windows 10 about 2 months ago) I see you're still replying to comments on this video, do you have any suggestions to fix this issue? Thanks in advance!

Hey, nice how to. but i have some problems. If i open settings in steam of gw2, the setting windows is behind steam. all like "guild wars 2" windows are hiding behind all other windows. why your setting window is not hiding? second: after add the startoptions, gw2 dont start.

Southern boy merging tech and gaming. Whoda thunk it. Its unfortunate the Nix maintainer has lost their mind and its support and popularity has plummeted. Such a cool concept. Started out on Manjaro, thinking quality would degrade over time with all the drama I learned about the Manjaro team. Fortunately it has only improved, and they have managed to keep their SSL updated lol.

Yea, Nix was fun. How is Manjaro these days? I'm currently on Arch learning docker and podman. I'll be putting out an Enshrouded dedicated server video soon.

My game doesn't start with this launch options. I replicated this 100% with the written guide and the video. The .bat file is not executed and therefore the game does not start. Idk what to do. Pretty much stuck here. I can however make my own bat file and add it as non steam game which starts both. I can even start GW2 out of BlishHUD but there is no HUD. I have triple checked the window rules. Wasted several hours now into making this work -.-

Are you using NixOS with the KDE version I use in the video? That’s the only way I’ve been able to get it working.

where are the compositor settings in plasma 6?

It does work on Plasma 6 too, but the default is Wayland on that version, and there is no compositor options for Wayland session, so this only works with Xorg

I have a dual monitor setup. when I start GW2 without Blish HUD, the mouse is trapped in the game. If I now install BH as in the video, then I constantly get to the 2nd monitor with the mouse. Then I have to click on the GW2 icon again to get back into the game. Is there a solution for this? iam using endeavouros with KDE 6

I haven’t tried this on a dual monitor setup. Try with just one and see how it does.

Does this require a Steam Deck? I am stuck at getting to the Deck Desktop, 1:36 in the video. Never mind, those windows are part of KDE and have nothing to do with the Steam Deck accept the Deck runs on KDE desktop. So the windows are the same on the Deck and in Linux running KDE desktop.

@@TheLinuxITGuy Well I thought I was making progress however now when I run GW2 it stops after about 1 second. No game windows opens at all. When I reverse the process the game runs again.

Hmm I don't have that optoin to allow apps to block compositing. Going to test if it works regardless.

What distro? I had to use nixOS to get this to work.

Replying to self. It does work. However, I had to remove all previous l launch options, including DRI options. Luckily they seem to be handled automatically and the dedicated GPU is used.

I'm using Endeavour OS@@TheLinuxITGuy I did change the original Blish HUD folder's name to "Blish.HUD", as suggested in the github page.

It's a bit annoying how dark it makes the game, but you can always only enable the HUD on one desktop, whole you can always move the game window to another. :)@@TheLinuxITGuy

@ Yes, this was an older version of KDE. Also, I was using NixOS.
