Guild Wars 2: Untamed is a TANK (Ranger Gameplay)

I have had this ranger sitting to the side FOREVER. Couldn't make up my mind where I wanted to take her. I rarely play alts in depth so it was never a huge concern but the itch is growing to play some ranger and this has sold me. It just looks like some good chill fun. Thanks for the vid!

I've recently made a second ranger to try out tanking things that I sneak myself into. While I've found more success with stout merged soulbeast, untamed CRANKS personal boons and is so sturdy if I don't need 3 immunities. I think the change to the untamed heal skill is counter to its design, the fact that I can rely on my health not moving and dipping makes healers lives not as rough.

3:58 Fervent Force affects all skills, not just untamed ones. Yes, it is that strong XD and a must have for more damage, since its the backbone of every untamed damage build.

i would love the buff, however using fervant force the untamed already has tons of group utility. heal from spirit, boonrip instacast boonrip, instacast projetile destruction, alac from spirits, top tier cc, only spec on par beeing spellbreaker. buffs also come from the spirit, you could even use the horn to go to the limits there, limiting you dmg in the process though. All that said the class gets a lot more complex once you use fervant force

I want to like Untamed but so far I can't get my head around how to use hammer properly. Like which skills to use when. When should I use which CC skill in combination with which skills with a bonus on CCed enemies. And I tried to use CC in one form and quickly switch to the other form to do extra damage but it was just too much for me and I basically just ended up spamming attacks without really doing any CC combos and then it just felt pointless. Like I want to capitalize on those CC bonuses but I couldn't. With warrior hammer is alot easier because there is only one skill that does more on CCed enemies so everytime I use any CC I just use that one. Not alot to keep track of. Untamed hammer seems like it could be the same idea but way more complex and with more options which I like but maybe it's too much for me. I'll give Untamed another attempt. Probably didn't help that I didn't have a good build before either.

My personal suggestion is not to overthink it. An enemy who gets crowd controlled will give you plenty bonuses already just for being Untamed. If you're unsure about what to do, put the first and the second pet skill on autocast. The third is a projectile reflect and can be useful when manually activated, but you do you. Take your time and smash things, you will get the hang of it eventually!

Use utility skills first and off cooldown. Then when you are unleashed, hammer 5-4-2, then when not unleashed use hammer 3, and pet 1-2. Try not to interrupt your auto attack chain. Set pet’s normal 1 and 2 to autocast. Edit: Also, Unleashed for offense. Not Unleashed for defense.

5 is both a CC and a gap, close 3 is a cc, 4 and 2 are damage and with the correct traits, Untamed can use CC for damage and cooldown reduction in normal mode, then big damage with 4 and 2 while in green mode. While in green mode, you sometimes get an ambush which means free damage if low on cooldowns. So, a rotation would go something like damage increase or defensive first, 5 gap close in normal mode,if you got exploding spores and another AOE pop one or both, pop all pet abilities, unleash, while waiting for ambush to finish pop a pet ability again, 4 then 2, switch back, 3 then 5 to reduce the cool downs, if utilities and unleash pet abilities are back up, pop again. rinse repeat.

I've had a ton of fun opening with hammer 4 for immobilize, and switching to unleashed hammer abilities to punishing enemies with mega dmg. :D

She’s using the Superior Runes of the Orge, which when you have 6 summons a Rock Dog in combat. I love it, though they’re changing how those work in the new expansion on august 22 2023. Apparently the 6th unique benefit of runes is turning into Relics, new items you can equip.

Honestly I've been scared to play untamed as pretty much all builds say it's a VERY fast paced playstyle. Is that just more on the meta end? I really suffer from only following builds from metabattle or snowcrows becuase then at least I have a lot of information about it available to me so I can attempt to learn. For example, people have thrown their own suggestions in the comments, I wouldnt even know where to start experimenting. Comes with time and practice of course. That being said, it looks super fun and piqued my interest.

It can be fast paced if you want it to be, but you can choose to focus on one "unleashed" mode more slowly. Staying with your pet unleashed allows you to be more tanky, and that might be less stressful and give you more time to get comfortable with the skills.

I want to give untamed a try, but I don't think there's any viable conditions builds using it. And I don't want to re-spec my current ascended gear to berseker's or some other power-focused stat. I guess I just need to bite the bullet and make a second set of ascended gear.

Condi Untamed is the highest simming build for the specialization. Also, even in exotics Celestial Untamed is really fun in the open world. Krait runes, Axe+Axe/ Shortbow or Axe+Warhorn. Have not tried Torch yet, but I could get around it. It's fun, has everything, pets add variety when not unleashed. 10/10 would recommend.

Definitely try condi untamed. Hugely fun and fast. Can even spec into nature magic to provide amazing amounts of boons.

Condi untamed is literally the best dps build in the game right now XD excluding deadeye, which cant be played on most groups anyway.

One of them is a Rune effect. Rune of the Ogre I believe. You summon a Rock Dog while in combat.
