Best RPG pvp of all time, just on the balance of damage vs variety of healing, let alone the entire millisecond accurate interrupt system. I remember bumping into a KMD player in an Alliance Battle once as a Monk and being so excited. I can't imagine how successful an e-sport this would be today.

less than 300 hours in pvp probably, I'm an average player, only glad rank 2, I'm 13 years old... If I was older I would've played this game since early years... when there was no GW2. when there were people in FA and HA, GvG matches available. better arenas such as Hero Battles and Team Arena. when a dervish was able to do 500 damage in a single hit XD

@Feliexxxxxxxx Spacebar is the auto-attack key. You can customize controls though. and yes, skills can be cast by clicking it, but it's quite slow so just use keys 1-8. If your point is trying to ask if this game's too simple, it is not. This is propably one of the hardest games there is; I've played like 1600+ hours and still learning.

damn i remember when Virtual Dragons and Rebels Rising dominated the GvG scene. where there was only the original GANK-Kamikaze Tactics guild and Lazy the biggest PvE alliance was. good times. best game ever played. i hope GW2 can at least reach the bar this awesome game set.

I couldn't agree more tbh. They should bring back GvG, it was the heart of Guild Wars and the best PvP in any game I've ever played. It's kinda hard to think of a way to bring it back though, since there are no monks. GW2 will never require as much skill as GW1, but they should at least try to do something similar with it. I've played maybe 30 hours of sPvP in GW2 and I'm already getting bored with it, while I've played maybe 2000+ hours of GW's PvP and it's as fun as ever(even though it's dead)

The PvP is and was amazing. I hope that maybe this could come back but was not to be. There was a huge issue in the PvP GW PvP had a huge learning curve. But it was known as the PvP game before dota got big. I think if this was ever remade it could do well once again if done right.

@damerli It sure is. But you kinda need all of them (Prophecies, Factions, Nighftfall and Eye of the North) to make it count for gw2. In EotN you can fill in your Hall of Monuments and get nice bonusses for gw2 (see Hall of Monument Reward calculater on the gw2 site).

@damerli If you want to get some GW2 goodies, populating your Hall of Monuments will certainly help. However, that begs the question if it's worth it to you to do this in order to get some yet-undefined perks for the sequel.

If you cast a spell, you turn to the direction of your target automatically. This is also important to keep an eye on when playing a monk, since you need to see the direction that enemies are casting to know who they are targetting, and pre-prot your allies before the damage even occurs (this is most important against elementalist or ranger spikes which can kill an ally in less than a quarter second, meaning that you have to pre-prot before the damage happens in order to keep the ally alive)

There was no tournaments back then, only GvG and HoH with people like ThePowerOfMyRangers (or something like that) owning it all. good ol' days.. too bad it took like an hour just to get a team to do HoH, too much waste of time.

I'm glad you're having fun; I recently got a new friend into Guild Wars PvP so it's pretty fascinating to watch him and his gf learn the game from scratch. I hear ya when you're talking about the hostility; there's a fair share of hotheads in this game, and they all congregate to PvP. You probably do want a mouse lol, though I'd advise you to use keys as much as possible; best reaction times come from keys, not mouseclicks.

gw was a great game, the gvg was so intense, required timing, coordination, vision, costant attention imho the best pvp system ever. i had a lot of fun playing this game, the player's ability really mattered.... so disappointed they made too many changes in gw2... do you remember the guild "World Of Charrcraft [GWII]? well i'm afraid they were right :)

@kyuhan5000 There are many forms of PvP in Guild Wars and this one usually takes the longest (up to 28 minutes). Heroes' Ascent can last quite long too, but Random Arenas matches usually last about 3 minutes or so. Trust me,the PvP is just awesome, though it will take a LOT of time to learn to play the game properly. And by the way,only the damage you do on enemies and the damage you take will pop up in-game. The "squares" are skill icons so you know what's hitting you.I hope you'll buy the game

If you've got the money you can get a level 20 character fully equipped and ready for pvp in a single day. If you don't care about looks, you can just roll a "PvP Character" which is just ready to go in like 10 seconds. If you don't care to buy GW's PvE, then you can buy the "PvP Access Kit" for only $20, and work to unlock pvp features on your own.

well i ended up buying the game anyway guys, and i really like it. havent done a GvG match but have spent some time in RA, TA, and AB, and have like it a lot. still learning and its harder than i thought. i also found it is much harder to pull off a spike without as many players as in GvG and not as much coordination.
