I am totally looking forward to seeing the cabinets go in. I'm not sure that bumping out the width of the great room will be an issue once y'all have the cabinets in place and the two spaces are more visually defined. I do agree on the overhang outside though. That would have been nice for those rainy days, but you still want to keep the doors wide open. Perhaps that is something y'all can retrofit later on?

@@curiouscat3384 The ADA guidelines don't take into account of corners, hallways and door entrances, etc. The doors might be 36", but that's good for a straight in wheelchair approach, but try that in a hallway and you'll find the hallway is too narrow. Not only pick out the appliances, purchase them. Providers change units regularly so by the time it comes to get what you wanted, it might not be available… same goes for tile, when you find what you want, buy it right then, and buy enough of it. The buried junction rule also applies to stuff behind cabinets, so make sure they are also accessible thru the cabinets… without the floor drain you will still need to plumb the water heater pressure relief thru the wall so a condensate pump could easily go thru the same hole.. Don’t you have to cover the basement ICF and floor framing to meet fire code? We did… We did most of the changes you would have done, the floor trusses were great! Made plumbing and wiring pretty easy. You nailed it with the extra penetration remark. We took a while planning ours and the changes we made were too many to count:) we had most of that out of our system thankfully before we started building. The kitchen layout went pretty close to plan as we based it on standard cabinet bay sizes. But I left provision for updraft or downdraft range hood and put in a wall penetration for the downdraft before that wall pour. The biggest thing I would have done different is I would have inset 1/2” plywood where all the upper cabinets would go as this would have made for a much more secure cabinet mount to screw into. Yours looks great, love the doors…

Can’t fix the roof overhang or the size of the family room - but have some suggestions for ur basement. 1. Tie everything up to the ceiling - then paint all white - rather then drop ceiling. 1/2 the expense, twice the speed, keeps those nice tall ceilings. 2. Of your really bothered, build a metal or concrete surround for your water system so if it leaks - it remains contained. Studs and drywall will cover it up and makes it a mechanicals closet. I think you will like the combination of having a gas cook top and a wall (or even double) oven. One question I was thinking of while watching the video is are you planning to vent a range hood over the gas cooktop to the outside? Also, have you considered the size (number of burners) you are going to get on the stove? One thing to consider, if you're leaning in this direction, is that per code the larger stoves require an exhaust vent capable of 700CFM, which is a big blower and also requires a source of intake air, which is usually a damper.
