My garden is overgrown with weeds now. I worry about snakes and probe the garden area I'm about to enter to play it safe. We also have ground squirrels. I decided to dig potatoes about a week ago. Everything was fine until I was about six feet from the squirrel hole. I pressed the spade fork into the ground, lifted the soil to expose the potatoes, only to find that I had pierced a three foot snake that had been underground. That was a first for me. I think it was a bull snake. It caught me by surprise, and was a little unsettling.

Thanks for this video - I was waiting, happy you are ok, though you do sound very, very tired, which is understandable. This morning I saw (TV) a young couple build a Dome house in Norway, but, in contrast to you, they build in area of family and friends, still took 8 months and drained a lot, they ended up happy :) May you all have a happy ending with this house !!

My garden keeps getting choked out by weeds, and the little chicken wire fence I have around it is falling apart. I think next year I'm going to invest in raised beds and place them throughout my yard. Also need to get some items to use for trellising because I think that will help with some of my veggies.
@prubroughton23274 жыл бұрын
Put your fork in vertically as far as you can get it ( I jump on it) a little bit out from where you expect the potatoes to be and lever the fork which should get most of them unharmed.

Ack, I am so over this rain! Every dang day for over a month here. It's wearing on me and I'm not even trying to get a house completed. I need one of those cool toys, I have to say. And that potato fork...you'll laugh. My husband came home today from buying a new water bath canner and said, "I got a present for you." He pulled out from the back seat a used potato fork he bought at a local flea market and handed it to me. I said, "Wow, thank you! And its not even our anniversary!", LOL. We need to dig sweet potatoes soon so it will be a great tool to have. ~Cynthia

Hello, I have been following your channel on and off over a few years now. Thanks for all the great info on homesteading! We are pseudo-homesteading in suburban hell in Upstate NY. I started getting interviews in Charlotte NC and was wondering if you could recommend some towns to look into for land/homesteading within 45 min or so from downtown if that exists. Thanks!!!
@daisygirl1119754 жыл бұрын
Look into Lexington, NC or Asheboro. There are areas of land around there and it’s fairly safe. The main issue you will have is commuting to Charlotte. The traffic is awful. Good luck.
