I've built the same kit! It's a fun one, and a stand out. I'll give you a tip: I prefer to cover the plans with clear plastic wrap, it tends to repel super glue and other adhesives well.

I realize Im kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good place to stream newly released tv shows online ?

@Harley Kole try FlixZone. Just search on google for it :)

I remember the die cut parts instead of laser cut parts it was much more tedious to clean up each piece to ensure proper fit. I haven't seen nor touched one of these kits since the early 80's I wasn't sure if they were still manufactured or built. It's nice to see and once completed the satisfaction of the finished project is more gratifying than plastic.

The engine firewalls and such out of that small "plastic sheet" are vinyl. Older production kits of that same were originally a thin grade plywood.

This video brings back so many memories from when I was a kid. I loved building and flying wood model airplanes. Guillow's kits were/are great . Nice video.

Thanks for the unboxing, this looks like a great kit!

I had one of these I bought at a WWll air show for like 5 bucks, never built it though. I remember carting it around with me through 4 or 5 moves over the years, until it finally met it's end in the trash. So, now you know, in case anybody ever asks how my F4U-4 met it's end!

I know it's 6 years ago but if you still have it I would like to see it. Thank you
1) You should build it to fly, Guillow's kit's actually fly very well. 2) They're easy to convert to R/C, and 3) involve your boys in the building!

How much money did you pay for it

Wow, laser cut. I've built so many stick and tissue that were just printed, for the builder to cut and sand.. And the old Guillow's kits that were "die crunched", but I'm yet to do a laser cut kit. It looks almost too easy.

I love these larger kits lots of hard work but they are amazing when done. I’m working on the P-47D/28 Thunder Bolt fighter now. I’m going hog wild detailing it out to the max. I even made the piloted movable. My engine is made of plastic, balsa, alumn and thread for piping. Having a blast getting ready to build the wing now. I plan to put a electric motor in it with dc control of the rudder and elevator. Enough battery power for 3 minutes then free flight back down. I did this set up with the SBD Dauntless.

Nice presentation. About to start building a plane and wondering how to do the tissue without all the smell. I am staying in a hotel. Might try your idea. I guess you didn't need to be concerned about weight if not going to motorize.

YOU SAY CHEAP PROP BUT REMEMBER IT IS SUPPOSED TO FLY
@johnsmith-ld7fu6 жыл бұрын
The balsa blocks are to carve a scale prop. That's not a laser cut kit. Thanks, nice vid..
@wildsau19656 жыл бұрын
look close , it is a laser cut and not a laser cut . its half and half
@johnsmith-ld7fu6 жыл бұрын
It very well could be. I dont remember it being offered as laser cut, but?
@johnsmith-ld7fu6 жыл бұрын
It does look half and half. Very strange..
@wildsau19656 жыл бұрын
it does look that way but at first i was also like ...laser cut ?????? . ive got the kit myself and there is nothing laser cut

Just something I'VE noticed in studying actual photos of these planes in flight vs on the ground... The vents around the cowling ALL seem to be CLOSED in flight and OPEN only while on the ground, probably for cooling when the aircraft isn't moving?! Go ahead and Google various actual Corsair photographs!
@wildsau19656 жыл бұрын
they would close them to gain speed
@RR678906 жыл бұрын
@@wildsau1965 The engine cowl flaps are opened for cooling at low airspeed. Otherwise the engine would overheat. It has nothing to do with drag, or how fast the plane can fly.

How much money is it
@GuyBerthiaume-ScaleModels4 жыл бұрын
I paid around $100 Canadian at the time but looking on Amazon I see it going for $200 USD (ouch!). I recommend checking/supporting your local hobby shop and I am sure it sells for less than on Amazon. On Guillow's website, you can pick it up for $108 USD (much more reasonable) www.guillow.com/voughtf4u-4corsair.aspx

"umm" Dude how old are you, and how long have you been building? you have never seen decals that big before?
@GuyBerthiaume-ScaleModels6 жыл бұрын
Well, the largest decals in this kit are 6 3/8" x 3 3/8" (16cm x 8.5cm) which I consider huge as I typically work with 1/35 and 1/48 scale plastic model kits so no I have never seen such huge decals. I actually installed them last week and they were unfortunately old, would not adhere well and broke as they were brittle near the edges. I ended up removing them and making my own with "Experts-Choice" White Decal Film for inkjet printers. The color was more realistic and went on without a hitch. I am only building this balsa kit as I wanted a large display piece to hang from my 5-year-old's ceiling.
