Guillow's Spitfire Amazing E-volution

I couldn't have foreseen the evolution this Guillow's Spitfire (504) would have gone through over a twelve month period. It's just given me so much fun which I've documented at every stage. Cliff, your channel is the kind of stuff that makes me still able to see the good in the internet despite all the horribly twisted stuff that has also has come with it. I don't want to tell what the first thing I was shown on the internet LOL I mean how cool is that I'm getting a whole new side of the hobby from a guy across the pond. Think of that?!? And u got that honest to God, look of joy when u fly. I know that look. I get it too! now I got to ask, is it true you a lot of british think of or call all Americans Yankees? I watched this documentary tonight and I got a kick out of it. But ok Google was no help fact checking this so I thought I kinda know a guy in round about way from that neck of the woods. I'll ask him? 🙂

Great project Cliff. I enjoyed the transformations and appreciated seeing your solutions to the problems presented. I had not seen anyone use sockets for weights. I can now put my two Whitworth sockets back to good purpose. Thank you.

Thanks Richard, those Whitworth's don't see much use these days, for a little more weight you can put smaller sockets inside the bigger sockets 👍

No, I'm not surprised Adam, mine as well, one flew over a couple of weeks ago on its way to a display. I still run outside and shout 'Spitfire, Spitfire' but the neighbours are very understanding.😀 It was a fun model from start to finish Adam, I like to get my money's worth 👍

That's so funny Cliff...to this day regardless of what it may be if a plane flies over I stop what I'm doing and look, and if its cool I point out what it is to anybody within earshot. People look at you funny if you do that in a Wal - Mart parking lot...

@@ModelAV8RChannel I'm 63 and I still do that. Maybe I still can't believe the miracle of flight. I fly RC and grew up seeing lots of other people crash RC spitfire models. I now want to build a Spitfire as a Guillows kit. It looks fun.

Hi Vaughan, thank you, the Cardinal is a pretty little plane but it's the old problem of too many planes and not enough time 😕, but funnily enough I have acquired the wing from an old Veron Cessna that's slowly making it's way up the build list 🙂

Hi Cliff! I just discovered a way to decal the green camelflaege or any other color by cutting out the pattern off the plans after tracing the pattern onto tissue paper. Then turn it backwards on a sheet of wax paper. Then spreed on some Elmiers blue gell glue onto the tissue paper. The glue keeps it on the wax paper. Turn the wax paper around and place it on the posistion where the colored tissue paper decal goes and apply it on like a water transfer decal. Carefully pull way the wax paper and work out the wrinkels and air bubbles. Done! When it dries it becomes very tight and smooth. Love your Spitfire videos! Fly high or crash and burn!

That's a great tip Richard, we don't have Elmers but I'm guessing watered down white glue would work as well, I'll give it a go. Blue skies and light winds or what you said 😁👍

@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes No, don't water down the glue. The tissue paper will rip apart. You need a gell glue. The gell glue doesn't rip the tissue paper. You could go on ebay app and buy Elmeirs blue gell glue because you said you don't have it in the U.K.. I buy stuff from forein countries on ebay alot! "YES YOU CAN BUY ELMEIRS BLUE GELL GLUE ON EBAY!!!" I also buy my airplane kits on ebay. Alot of antique airplane kits can be bought on ebay you haven't seen in 40 -50 years! " THAT'S AWESOME!!!"

Low-wing RC models should have ailerons, can omit rudder and fly yank & bank style. Adding right and down-thrust motor angle can help counter torque roll and spiral airflow effects on vertical stabilizer.

Hi Gary, yes, I agree but as the model only had a moveable rudder and elevator from its free-flight days, plus a fair amount of dihedral, I thought it would be worth a shot 👍

That's a great question Terry, well, I have a VMC kit on the shelf, another MinimumRC kit on the way and plans for a scale foamboard model plus plans for a simple introduction to rotary flying which has been waiting the longest 🤔
