Beautiful Spitfire. And 2 great hints: the jig for the vertical fin and thinned PVA glue for the water decals. Thanks again.

May I ask what tissue you use?? Would craft tissue work? Thanks in advance
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 5 ай бұрын
Hi Josh, yes you can, it's not as 'soft' as tissue made for the purpose but I, and other modellers, do use it. A uk supplier is DB Sport and Scale or the Vintage Model Company cheers 🙂👍

@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes thanks for the reply!! I did notice that it was more crinkly and crisp than the “proper” tissue…do you think there is a big weight difference? One last question what do you use to thin nitrate dope? Thanks so much!!
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 5 ай бұрын
If you're not sure Josh make up a little test square and try it out before you commit to an air frame. Unless you're going for some incredibly light competition model weight there's not much difference in it, you could easily add too much weight by one coat of dope! Speaking of which I tend to use cellulose dope and use cellulose thinners to thin it down, it should say on the tin what to thin it down with? On Google it says use either acetone or a high grade lacquer thinner, cheers 👍

Beautiful! Does the wing have to be detachable or is it just for transportation purposes?
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 3 жыл бұрын
Neither actually Memento, you can glue it on as per the plans but it depends on the terrain you're flying over. Long grass then glue it on, short grass and you take your chances when it hits the ground at a funny angle of something breaking. It was a lot more work but the wing has never broken because it can move 🙂

Cliff I really appreciate the time and clarity of all of your work👍 was wondering what u initially put on your tissue before your painting begins. I seem to end up with my tissue wrinkling when I paint the plane. Using an air brush. Frustrated
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, I use water based paint, just ordinary emulsion watered down a bit but first I spray a coat of clear matt lacquer to seal the tissue a bit. Failing that I use coloured tissue 👍

what brand/type of paint do you use on tissue model airplanes. And do you dope the tissue before you paint it? Thanks.
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Carroll, yes, stretch the tissue first before applying paint, keeping things as light as possible helps with flight performance if that's the goal. If it's a static model it's not important at all. For this model I only used one colour of paint as I used brown tissue as a base colour. The green was watered down wall matt emulsion, the whole lot then sealed with a very light coat of matt lacquer from a rattle can. Watch part 6 as well kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWHLnH-egpmNqNE, cheers

Can you airbrush the kit with acrylic paint for the paintwork?
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dee Tee, probably but it depends on what you're spraying onto. My advice is to make up a little test square of balsa and cover and finish it the same way as the model then try your paint. If this is too long winded then try your paint in an inconspicuous area, go lightly if you're building a flying model 👍

are you using,...what type of paint???(green)
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcelo, the green is watered down household emulsion wall paint, you need to spray either matt or gloss lacquer over it or it could wash off. Because it's watered down it goes on smoothly.

Hi cliff. It’s looking great I hope you don’t run into a FW190 on the maiden. I usually scan the transfers before I put them on the plane, you never know if you need them again. I bet the pilot is Fred Dibnah. Thanks for the video 👍

Thanks Jon, good idea re the scanning, didn't think to do that. Fred would have made a cracking pilot, but no it's not him but I'll keep him in reserve for another plane.
