I think you did a great job! Congratulations on your first flight! And you got some quality time with the family as well- priceless!

Hats off to the wives that have to follow us to the field to try for photographic evidence... Himagine if we had to film them while they're working in the garden... or trying their just finished dresses...🙂

Thanks. The laser cut Guillow's kits have a lot better balsa than the older ones. It was a fun kit to build. I hope to post some more flight vids shortly.

Nice to see one fly. I bet less than 1% are ever finished and 0.1% are actually flown.
@me262a12 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You're probably right about the completion rate. I'm trying to disprove the notion that Guillow's kits won't fly. LOL All my builds so far have flown at least 20 seconds which is the FAC minimum. If I had a bigger field I could really crank 'em up. Maybe one day.

Hi so I’m building this kit now.. seems like I’ve punched and cut out every you did. Not sure I’m going to make 24g. I’m at 20 now. With no prop no rubber and no covering. What am I missing?
@me262a19 ай бұрын
The wood Guillows uses can be very heavy to almost acceptable. My kit had decent wood but you must have gotten some heavy stuff. It's too bad but I guess that's how they keep the price down. Yours will still fly ok though. I've built some real heavy ones that did ok.
@hondaxl250k09 ай бұрын
@@me262a1 well I’ve been doing surgery on it all night. Think I’ll make just under 26 with out rubber. Left off the gear. No guns. No antenna. No paint. Just a light dope. And some real rubber for the motor. Not the in box junk.
@hondaxl250k09 ай бұрын
@@me262a1 what rubber did you use for the motor?
@me262a19 ай бұрын
@@hondaxl250k0 I used a 15 inch loop of 1/8th fai. The prop is from easy built and I really like it a lot. Bigger rubber will work but I like mine to fly low and slow if I can. I use this method for braiding. kzbin.info/www/bejne/baOZYnahjpeUh68

Fantastic build! All those holes you make to lighten it make it look even better. In credible detail with the hammer and sickles! How did you make them so small?
@me262a12 жыл бұрын
Every bit of weight saving is helpful. I downloaded a picture of the flag and reduced it in photoshop and printed it on decal paper. I sprayed a few coats of clear acrylic before I cut the decals out to add a little strength. It works pretty good.
@downwindchecklist65672 жыл бұрын
@@me262a1 The whole decal paper approach seems to be a good one. I notice that as I struggle to hand paint markings. I need to get to that level at some point. Thx!

I love your videos! Can you tell me what the little red kit with the black (???) tools inside is? Are they for making holes in the balsa to lighten the model? If it is where can they be purchased?
@me262a12 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The kit is an Owden hollow punch set. It's for punching holes in leather. It's not the best for balsa but I go slow and twist it. It can easily split the wood. I got it off Amazon. If you know were a gun range is empty shell casings would make better punches. Just sharpen them up a little.
@suenarlesky73282 жыл бұрын
@@me262a1 I like the idea of using empty shell casings I will try that method. Thanks for your input.

how important is it to drill holes in the model? i am building one right now and want to make it fly with the included rubber
@me262a1 Жыл бұрын
Any weight that can be removed aft of the center of gravity is helpful. A lighter model will fly longer. It doesn't have to be done though. These kits a pretty hard to get to fly so don't get discouraged. If you use facebook, "Guillows Flying Models" group will help you out greatly. They are very supportive and any questions you have they know the answers. Good luck!!!

I'll be honest these kits are way harder to build then any of my big rc balsa kits i have built tiny parts very delicate and takes lots of time to get pieces to fit perfect before gluing if not it's gonna be full of ugly gaps pueces not glued properly and the airframe wont be straight I gave up on my first guillows model

@@me262a1 there is a guy on KZbin that has very detailed how to videos on rc conversion on these. I think the builder enlarged tge plans a little but Idk hard to tell and has teansparebt light weight monokote. Idk if it is a guillows kit but sure does look lile one and it mayches up just barley to the guillows plans for this plane. It's a very beautiful plane and a blast to fly.
