The Bombarde she plays at the end is, alas, now silent, apparently because someone thought it wasn't in keeping with the main organ. I sang in the choir there for nearly 25 years, and this sounds just like it did to us when sitting in the choir (120 decibels of thrills and chills). The bombarde division is now listed for sale at the Organ Clearinghouse.

I heard Simon Preston, E. Power Biggs, and Karl Richter on this instrument. Just a wonderful instrument with fabulous string stops. Wish I could have heard Bish play also. Would have topped everything off.

"swelling" with the left foot - I find that so difficult! Two pedals at the same time not so bad, but all the while seeming to counterintuitive for some reason. A great rendition of a master piece. I also find the sounds of the organ and the space reminds me of St. Pauls in London. Anyone else find that?

If the Bombarde was not in keeping with the instrument's tonal qualities, then an organist of Diane Bish's stature would not have used it. The "authorities" would have done well to afford more respect her taste and judgement. Their side of the story might make interesting reading.

I should add that the bombarde has been replaced by an 8' Tuba Major in the Great. The bombarde is no longer playable. When the new console was installed in 2000 the fifth manual was eliminated and the division is not even hooked up to the new console. Bah!

You're just jealous because you don't have shoes like her's. And, what the heck is a "tutti" pedal? It's a Crescendo pedal according to the APOBA, but you probably know more than they do anyway.
