I want to try this on a child’s shirt (age 5) how wide should I make the placket?

I am a new sewer and I’m a bit intimidated by the patterns! Do you have a pattern for the top you are wearing? That is exactly what I want to make! I love to weave finer cloth using 16/2 and finer. Your patterns will be a beautiful way to use it, once I learn how to sew!
