Making these are not a simple process. Editing, getting the shot, deciding the content, it’s a lot of effort. Watch his intro to this channel (after he stopped on the other channel) and he talks about the effort to some degree.

Love watching you cutting. I live in Central Pennsylvania and just had a local tree service take down a dead sugar maple from my backyard. They got here at 6:30 last Saturday and by 3 they were all cleaned up and gone. It wasn't that big, but at least 70 feet tall.

I live in Southern New England in a world of sugar maples - no firs. A neighbor's sugar house was across the road, and he used to tap my trees this time of year. I'm no pro, just a gentleman farmer with a wood/saw hobby. Probably 70% of my cutting is maple, with the balance white and red oak. My tractor saw is a 261 with just a muffler mod, and it's sweet spot is an 18" bar. My ground limber is a 361 with a 24". Really big stuff has been a 661CM with a 32", but at 73, the weight is starting to get to me. Just got the 500i that I was on a waiting list for a year and a half, so I'm anxious for that to take some of 661's work! From the world of long rakers and short bucking teeth! 😁

You schlep that up and down a steep hillside and you have had your workout for the next 6 months! I crop dusted for 20+ years flying under power lines every day and but doing that would have freaked me out.

About 134 native and 62 introduced tree species grow across Pennsylvania. Its range of topography and climate-from coastal plain to mountain ridge-top and high plateau-allows the Commonwealth to support the many different kinds of trees that make our forests unique and special Softwood species, including eastern hemlock, white pine and red pine, account for about ten percent of the sawtimber volume in Pennsylvania

I remember when I was a kid growing up in southern Mississippi in the 1960s and we would have city cleanup crews come through the neighborhood after a hurricane. They had some big drum chippers also. But unlike the one you were featuring in this video, they didn’t have feed rollers. Operators would just toss the butt of a limb into the chute and the knives on the drum would just grab it and rip it out of their hands. It was a violent and I’m sure extremely dangerous operation to feed one of those things. I imagine several operators lost hands and arms or worse when their hands got caught in a tangled branch and they were sucked in along with the branch.

I cut in the tri-state WV/PA/OH area and we call it hard maple too. Red (softer) maple is more common here, but hard maple is an occasional treat due to sale price. Jacob is right though, rakers can't be too low for them, and they'll break the teeth of chains that have been sharpened too many times. Really any tree can do that, but most noticeable on those.
