For the record, Stanely knew that there was treasure buried where Kissing Kate's lip stick was found because he grew up hearing stories about Kissing Kate Barlow, famous thief. She is a local legend. His grandfather is even telling the story of how she robbed his great grandfather, Stanely Yelnats the first, earlier in the movie when his family is sitting around the dinner table. That is why Stanely's name is on the treasure box. This movie has literally no plot holes.

My 4th grade teacher read Holes to my class. She read it every year, but it also happened to be the school year the movie would come out. Loved the book, loved the movie. Now I've been a teacher for 8 school years, and for 6 of those I've taught 4th grade. I read Holes every year as the first read-aloud I do during our 20 min snack time. Just for fun, not do do academic work on. Some of the kids kind of act like being read to is babyish at first. Then, they get into the story, and they're excited every day to hear what happens next. And let me tell you, watching their faces when a plot twist or a pivotal moment happens is just the best. Then we watch the movie for their Fun Friday period, the last 30 min of the school week, until we finish it. Quite a few of my past students told me reading and watching Holes are a core memory for them. Makes my heart so happy. I also hope it helps some of them see you can read just for fun, not just for school work.

Marion is absolutely an (old-fashioned) male name. It was my great-grandfather's name. It used to be that "Marion" (with an o) was the male name and "Marian" (with an a) was the female name. Movie star John Wayne's real name was Marion Morrison.

My schools did the same dang thing - I had holes as required reading maybe 2 or 3 different times in different grades and then read it on my own just because I loved it somewhere in between all of those reads - and I’m from Massachusetts - maybe an east coast thing? (Also yep Hatchet was also required reading but I never did because the cover was so hideous I couldn’t bring myself to do it)
@ambriaashley33835 ай бұрын
Born in Chicago IL. Holes was not required reading but it was in our teachers classroom library so I picked it up & loved it. The cool thing is Camp Green Lake really was a Girl Scout camp and it’s in Illinois. I visited it as a Brownie 😂😅 Hatchet was also not required reading but my 4th or 5th grade teacher chose it as a read aloud book to us for class story time. It blew our little minds. Class favorite for sure 👏

I can't even with how much they're squeeing over Holes!!!! it's one of my favourite movies ever. I was 37 when I saw the movie in 2007, and I don't remember the big deal about the book. It's one of few movies I've watched where I got to the end of and immediately watched it again. When Hector runs away after hitting Pendansky, and the Warden says to destroy all of Hector's paper work because "he was never here," to me, the justified nearly any punishment she was going to get. The thing with the judge is he is in cahoots with the Warden, Mr. Sir, and Pendansky. If some kid who is Black, or poor, or homeless comes before his bench, he knows he can send them to Camp Greenlake and no one will miss them. The absolute best part of the whole movie is when Stanley puts the valise in the trunk and the Warden begs him, "Stanley, won't you just open it? Just let me see what's inside, please." And he closes the trunk and says, "Secuse me?" Boom! Khelo Thomas is a gamer who won a Mortal Kombat 11 tournament dressed as Powerline from A Goofy Movie. "I can fix that" means the exact same thing as "As you wish." Yes, Zach!!!
