I like using toggle bath mats in my indoors C&C cage for my piggies - spot clean every day, and machine wash every 3-4 days. Best option with minimal plastic and paper waste.

We had a cot built about the size of a single bed and we lay it with towels which we change ever 2 days. This works for us and stops the hideous bumble foot (:

I initially started off using shavings and found that, while expensive, it cut down odors and was a natural “abrasive” that would keep the piggie’s feet and bums clean. I eventually changed to GuineaDad pads which were expensive up front but much cheaper over a year vs shavings. Although any savings were somewhat offset by labor and laundry. I like the GuineaDad pads but they do maintain urine odors if not changed frequently or if extra fleece pads aren’t used. And…when using shavings I would find it all over the house. Along with hay. 😂😂😂🐾

My 3 girls are indoor when I first got them they were on shavings and as they got older and Essa's hair growing in she is a long hair I switched to fleece liners due to shavings getting tangled in her hair

I use fleece I spot clean twice a day and wash it right away It’s a bit of a work but I can’t stand shavings flying all over the room on a carpet I have had piggies for 3 years and already lost 3 at young age of 1.5, 2.5 and 3 years old Different situations including out of nowhere heart failure I take care of my babies very well and go above and beyond what’s required including very expensive vet bills but seems like I have very little control over their life spend I feel very devastated… Is anyone facing the same issue , is it something I have to except owning guinea pigs? I’m starting to feel hopeless 😞

Good genes, good management and good luck all play a part. Yes, it's heartbreaking to lose a piggy. They've evolved to hide pain and illness. Sometimes weight loss can be the only indicator you'll notice.

Someone I follow here in the UK has recently switched to shredded cardboard, she said it was working out well, have you every tried that?
